- The main antagonist in Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal and A Crack in Time
- Voiced by Armin Shimerman, who also voiced BioShock's Andrew Ryan
- Occasionally blows a fuse during high-stress activity
The brilliant thing about Ratchet & Clank villains is that they're evil, but evil in the most loveable way. Dr. Nefarious is one such villain. A robotic mad scientist with a cyber butler, Dr. Nefarious despises all organic life and wishes to wipe it out entirely. Nefarious is the main villain in Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, and he also returns as the villain for Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time.
Dr. Nefarious was originally an organic individual himself, but a long-standing hatred for Captain Qwark (thanks to a terrible 9th grade Biology class) slowly twisted Nefarious into the evil "mastermind" he is. His butler, Lawrence, often points out Nefarious' shortcomings and failures, mainly out of his own frustration.
In Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Dr. Nefarious sets out to turn all biological life into robots, but is foiled by the game's signature heroes. In A Crack in Time, Dr. Nefarious wants to use the Great Clock to rewrite history, so all heroes fail and all villains emerge victorious. His diabolical plan, of course, fails again, thanks to Ratchet and Clank's heroic efforts.
One of Dr. Nefarious' most charming quirks is his tendency to blow a fuse and stop mid-sentence, occasionally picking up soap opera radio waves in the process. This glitch happens when Nefarious is under stress or overly excited, and it lends a tremendous amount of personality to his character.
