Battle Begins in the Debut War of the Roses Trailer

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Mar 8, 2012 6:48 AM | Comment

Paradox's War of the Roses takes me back to my childhood days of building intricate Lego castle kingdoms... and then invading them with an army of Lego knights keen on decapitating yellow heads. Okay, fine, by "childhood days" I actually mean last week. So I'm a thirty-something that loves playing Legos. There, I said it. Let's move on. War of the Roses is shaping up nicely, and the first gameplay trailer is here to prove it. Read More »

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Mar 8, 2012 6:11 AM | Comment

Show me your war face. Ha! That's it? Are you sure that's not your constipated face? While you work on that, let's move on to the news: Crytek's CryEngine 3 powered free-to-play shooter, the promising but unfortunately named Warface, is now accepting beta registrations. Read More »

BioShock: Infinite's Motorized Patriot is a George Washington Model Terminator

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Mar 8, 2012 5:06 AM | Comment

Picture the videogame art director, surrounded by rough sketches of heroes, monsters and other fantastical beings beyond labels. Watch as he puts the finishing touches on his latest work, a wind-up, animatronic villain with a powdered wig, a Gatling gun, and a penchant for the patriotic. Now step back to watch this creation, this Motorized Patriot, spring to life in the latest trailer for BioShock: Infinite. Read More »

Wargame: European Escalation Review in Progress

By Rob Zacny | PC Reviews | Mar 7, 2012 11:39 PM | Comment

I would love to be able to deliver a final judgment on Wargame: European Escalation right now. I'm really excited to write that review. But -- and I hope you'll be understanding about this -- I didn't count on wire-guided anti-tank missiles. I know, it sounds like a desperately lame excuse, but they're core to understanding why WEE is so damned hard, why I'm less than halfway through the campaign after over 20 hours of play, and why being stuck is so much fun. MLB 2K12 Review - Updated

By Mike Nelson | PC Reviews | Mar 7, 2012 10:06 PM | Comment

It's largely accepted that Sony's MLB The Show series has dominated the baseball videogame market since 2008. That's great for PlayStation 3 users, but what about everyone else? Since 2K Sports negotiated an exclusivity deal (set to expire this year), the MLB 2K series has been the only serious game of baseball in town for everyone without a PS3 and it hasn't reviewed nearly as well. That being said, MLB 2K12 feels like a long time coming, building upon ideas established in 2K10, and almost delivers on a well-focused baseball game, something PC gamers haven't had since EA's MVP 2005. If it wasn't for a couple of bugs that shipped with the retail PC copy, it could have been the well-rounded baseball game I've been waiting years to see from 2K Sports, but it'll need a couple of patches to get there. SimCity's Engine Built from Ground up to be Moddable

By Nathan Grayson | PC News | Mar 7, 2012 2:34 PM | Comment

Are curved roads not enough for your jaded, weary soul? Is a perfect, corner-less reality only an appetizer for your insatiable hunger? Do you want to make aliens (who may or may not also be curved) invade, like, all the time? Well then, it sounds like you should take up the incredibly complex hobby that is modding. Or, you know, get someone else to do it for you. Regardless, SimCity's going all in with mods, so all your bases are covered. Read More »

So Here's 30 Minutes of PlanetSide 2 Footage

By Nathan Grayson | PC News | Mar 7, 2012 1:30 PM | Comment

Goodness. I've spent the past 15 minutes or so just kind of staring at my screen and imagining the sorts of mad shenanigans PlanetSide 2's gigantic, world-shaped war dome presents. 50 players all stampeding around in tanks at once? These are the things I dream of as I'm drifting off to sleep at night or welding a small turret to the top of my 2007 Honda Fit. And that's barely even scratching the surface of SOE's massively anticipated, massively massive shooter sequel. Below, you'll find a hair over 30 minutes of footage that continues the surface-scratching process, exploring everything from specific vehicle specs to F2P "side-grades." There might also be some shooting in there. At any rate, go, watch, salivate. Read More »

Bring Your Friends Back to World of Warcraft with the Scroll of Resurrection Promo

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Mar 7, 2012 8:29 AM | Comment

There's typically a sizable roadblock when trying to convince an ex-WoW friend to return to Azeroth: they're now nowhere near your level, and it will take them weeks of grinding to catch up. Blizzard blasted that roadblock today with the new Scroll of Resurrection, a promotion that allows current subscribers to bring back a friend's old character and instantly boost them to level 80. Paradox Takes the Wraps Off of Dungeonland, Red Frontier, and Showdown Effect at GDC

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Mar 7, 2012 7:16 AM | Comment

In early February, Paradox teased three new games, including one it described as a "death trap for heroes and children." That somewhat unnerving description now makes sense. Dungeonland, one of the three mystery games Paradox unveiled at GDC 2012 this week, is a fantasy dungeon crawler set in a theme park controlled by a maniacal wizard. Get it, death trap for heroes and children? Someone tell Jack Thompson his latest crusade against videogames is over before it started. Get the scoop on Dungeonland and Paradox's two other new games within. Read More »

Epic China's Debut is Gears of War-Style Shooter Mercenary Ops

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Mar 7, 2012 5:49 AM | Comment

If you've been missing Gears of War since the original was ported to PC back in 2007, you'll want to keep an eye on Mercenary Ops. The debut from Epic Games subsidiary Epic China will feature cover-based, third-person shooter action designed with the Unreal Engine, and come complete with head-stomping executions. Mercenary Ops is pretty much Gears of War in a new skin, and it's a PC exclusive coming this summer. Read More »

New Battefield 3 Content Announced

By Mike Nelson | PC News | Mar 7, 2012 5:01 AM | Comment

Yes, we were at a Battlefield 3 event last night at GDC. No, we can't talk about it. Well, we can talk about some of it, namely that Battlefield 3 is most definitely getting three content packs before the year is out, with the first one, Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, launching sometime in June. Double Fine's Stacking Now on PC

By Nathan Grayson | PC News | Mar 6, 2012 7:54 PM | Comment

PC may have been missing a hefty chunk of Double Fine's finest for a good many months, but the recently crowned king of Kickstarter is slowly but surely making its way back to our humble Best Platform Ever. First, Costume Quest quietly taught us that Halloween can still be pretty rad even without an astronomically increased risk of diabetes, and now Stacking -- a puzzle game about Russian matryoshka dolls -- has made its Steam debut. It's witty, delightful, and surprisingly excellent from a puzzle perspective. Buy it now for a measly $9.99 or have a towering stack of regret for free. Or some real matryoshka dolls, if you're a purist. Me, though, I've been spoiled by technology. If my tiny wooden dolls don't at least have WiFi and Facebook access, it's no deal. Read More »
