A young Hull City side eased to a 4-1 win against Bridlington Town in a pre-season friendly at Queensgate on Wednesday evening.
Goals from Nicky Featherstone, Ryan Kendall (2) and an own goal saw the Tigers turn their impressive performance into a victory.
It was Featherstone who opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Picking up Will Atkinson's short pass, the midfielder burst through the Bridlington defence before calmly rounding the goalkeeper and slotting the ball into the empty net.
While the home side showed plenty of promise ahead of the new season, the game was taken away from them in a seven-minute spell just after half time.
Kendall netted his first of the night when converting a low right-wing cross from close range and the same man was on target again in the 52nd-minute as he delightfully lifted the ball over the advancing keeper following Yann Ekra's through ball.
To their credit, Bridlington refused to let their heads drop and they pulled a goal back on the hour-mark when Alex Rhodes fired home after the ball had bounced down off the crossbar.
City's three-goal advantage was soon restored though. Steve Gardner's low ball across the face of goal took the goalkeeper out of the game and as Kendall raced in to claim a hat-trick, it appeared as though a defender got the final touch.
Playing some neat football, especially down the right, the Tigers continued to search for goals and only a superb save kept out Nathan Hanley's 25-yard free kick.
