Two years ago Rare announced Conker's Quest, a 3D platformer in the style of Banjo-Kazooie, for Nintendo 64. A year later the game received a name change to Twelve Tales: Conker 64. But the title fell under criticism for being too cute and too much like the bear/bird duo to really stand out. Not long after, rumors surfaced that Rare had gone back to the drawing board with the squirrel and that was the last we heard of it. With almost a year and no mention of Conker, many in the industry began speculating that the game was privately cancelled.

It wasn't. Nintendo unveiled a portion of its 2000 Nintendo 64 software line-up today and, lo and behold, the friendly squirrel seems to be back on schedule for a holiday release. Perhaps more interestingly, though, is the new name of the game: Conker's Bad Fur Day. Sources have told IGN64 that the title has undergone a massive makeover and is, as one insider puts it, "a whole new game from Twelve Tales: Conker 64." With a new design that is highly original and allegedly a little twisted, we're not sure what to expect of the platformer now -- but we're very intrigued.

Nintendo 64 owners will be happy to learn that Nintendo is planning to pull back the curtain on Conker's new design -- fuzzy fur and all -- at a Seattle press event later this month. We will be there.
