The Tudors' Henry Cavill Cast as Superman
Henry Cavill
Henry Cavill has been cast as in the title role of Superman: The Man of Steel, Deadline reports.
The British actor, 28, is best known for his portrayal of Charles Brandon on Showtime's The Tudors. He will next appear on the big screen as the mythical Greek god Theseus in Immortals, followed by a starring role in The Cold Light of Day.
Zack Snyder to direct Superman film
Zack Snyder (Watchmen) will direct the film from a script written by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight). Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan helped with the story and will produce the film, due out in December 2012.
"In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen," Snyder said in a statement. He added that Cavill "is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield."
After the success of Smallville, the TV series which follows Clark Kent's early days, X-Men director Bryan Singer attempted to restart a feature film franchise in 2006. However, Superman Returns, starring a then-unknown Brandon Routh, was a miss both commercially and critically.
Do you think Cavill will make a good Man of Steel?
