Station Closure Process

Thursday, February 23, 2012

The Croxley Rail Link is making progress following the announcement of funding by the Secretary of State for Transport in December 2011 and subsequent submission of a Transport & Works Act Order to the Department for Transport in early January 2012.

A fundamental element of the overall scheme requires the closure of the existing terminus station at Watford (known locally as Watford Met) and its replacement by two new stations on the reinstated Croxley Green branch alignment. There is a formal closure process to follow, as described in Schedule 8 of the Railways Act 2005. This process has now commenced. The official notice can be viewed by clicking this link.

The closure of the station has always been part of the Croxley Rail Link proposals. Keeping Watford Met open in any capacity, including running a split or shuttle service, would have a negative effect on the scheme overall resulting in poorer service for all users reducing the economic benefits of the rail link
