The Web is one of the services communicated via the Internet. It is a collection of interconnected documents and other resources, linked by hyperlinks and URLs.

The terms Internet and World Wide Web are often used in every-day speech without much distinction (as can be seen in the several subcategories below, titled "Internet ..." that should be "World Wide Web ..."). However, the Internet and the World Wide Web are not one and the same. The World Wide Web is a publicly available global data communications system, a hardware and software infrastructure that provides connectivity between thousands of, business, academic, and government networks.. The Internet is the worldwide system of interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching over the Internet Protocol (IP).

Besides the Web, other services using the internet include electronic mail, File Transfer Protocol, online chat, Voice over Internet Protocol, Instant messaging, Internet Broadcasting, and Usenet.
