Wimbledon Football Club has been told to stop using the double-headed eagle crest that it has used as its club badge for the last 30 years without issue.

The College of Arms informed the Club in August last year that this crest is a device consisting of Arms granted to the Borough of Wimbledon in 1906, that the Club's use of these Arms is unlawful and that the Club must discontinue their use immediately.

The Club does not want to drop the crest and has made every effort to retain it as its badge but has been unable to do so. As a result, Wimbledon Football Club has designed a new logo that will appear on all Club kit, merchandise and literature from the start of next season, replacing the double-headed eagle crest. This new logo was endorsed by the Club's Season Ticket holders at a meeting on Saturday 12 April 2003.

Developed with the help of its design agency The Bridge and its supporters, the new logo takes the Club's identity forward as it embarks on a new and exciting future in Milton Keynes. The emblem is derived from the old crest, but it has been simplified, updated and given a dynamic new look.

Charles Koppel, Chairman of Wimbledon Football Club said:
"We did not want to change our logo but have been forced to do so. When the College of Arms told us that our use of the crest that we have used for the last 30 years is, in fact, unlawful and it became clear that we could no longer use it, we decided to update our identity.

"This new logo clearly demonstrates our commitment to both our heritage and to our future. It draws together two vital elements of the Club: those who have brought us this far and those who will take us forward.

"I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this process, not least our Season Ticket holders who have been so supportive as we have developed our new identity."
