LONGMEADOW - When she stumbled upon the “Jeopardy!” teen tournament test on the show’s Web site, Lindsay E. Oxx, 17, of Longmeadow, asked herself “Why not?”
Oxx took the test and was selected as a contestant for the 2009 “Jeopardy!” Teen Tournament. Fifteen teens from across the country are participating in the tournament, which will run through Nov. 13. They are competing for a top prize of $75,000.
“I just figured I had nothing to lose by taking it. Me and my family love ‘Jeopardy,’ and it’s the coolest thing ever to be a part of the show.”
Oxx, a senior at Longmeadow High School and member of the “As Schools Match Wits” team, filmed the show in Los Angeles.
Her first appearance was Nov. 4. She made it to the semifinals, so she will also appear on the show on Wednesday.
“It was such a surreal experience,” Oxx said.
Besides the actual game show, what Oxx most enjoyed was meeting other teens from across the country.
“We had 20-minute bus rides to the Sony studios every day from our hotel, and we all had so much fun together,” she said. “We spent a lot of time together during and between filming.”
Oxx said that after being on the show, she has a much better understanding of why people make the choices they do.
“Once you are up there, even though you know the answers, sometimes it just doesn’t come out right or you don’t move fast enough,” she said.
She still watches the show and encourages teens who like the show to try out.
“Just take the test. It’s 20 minutes of your day, and it can turn into the most amazing experience of your life,” she said.
