Uganda: Malaysia to Train Uganda Police

Kampala — MALAYSIA is willing to train the Uganda Police Force for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), slated in November this year.

This was agreed on Thursday during a meeting between the police chiefs of both countries at Bukit Aman Police Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Given that Malaysia hosted the Commonwealth in 1989, Ugandan Police chief Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura had requested his counterpart, Tan Sri Musa Hassan, for specialised skills in combating crime.

The police chiefs agreed to share information, especially on fighting terrorism, drug trafficking, riot control and marines.

Present at the meeting was Uganda's Honorary Consul, Noraihan Haji Adnan.

Kayihura, as a member of the CHOGM task force, arrived in Malaysia on Tuesday for a working visit.

Uganda's delegation is led by ambassador James Mugume, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
