That is definitely Taylor Kitsch in a comic book right there.
Disney's pinning their hopes of next year's John Carter of Mars as their next big tentpole and over the next few months, you'll be seeing them make a big push for the sci-fi Edgar Rice Burroughs adaptation. That means this October, we'll be getting a comic prequel to the movie from Marvel.
The four-issue miniseries will be written by Peter David with art by Luke Ross covering the story prior to the upcoming movie. According to the press release, the mini will cover "what events shaped the conflict that would change [Carter's] destiny—and that of the universe—irrevocably." Whether this will be set primarily on Mars or Earth remains to be seen as are any details about the what point in the John Carter timeline the story will be occurring in.
For those of you unfamiliar with the original Burroughs stories [via Wikipedia, spoilers at the link]:
On Mars, which its natives call Barsoom, Carter encounters both formidable alien creatures resembling the beasts of ancient myth and various humanoids and finds his true calling in life as a warrior-savior of the planet's inhabitants. He wins the hand of Martian princess Dejah Thoris of Helium...
The recently released teaser for the movie is likewise tantalizingly light on details, although I have higher hopes for Kitsch here than I did for his work on Wolverine Origins as a card-playing, pole-swinging Gambit. And while I dug his work on Friday Night Lights, I'm wondering what the rush is to make a marquee star out of a guy whose real talent is playing things low-key and human.
John Carter: World of Mars #1 will be on shelves in October.
