Toy Fair 2012: Kotobukiya's New DC Statues

Kotobukiya has quickly become our go-to company when it comes to statues based on our favorite pop culture characters. While primarily known for their Star Wars, Bishoujo, and Marvel lines, Kotobukiya is reminding everyone that they've got the DC Comics license as well with the release of this statue from the classic "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns"! We first saw design images of this at Toy Fair 2012, and we're stunned by just how nice the finished product has turned out. For those of you that might not be familiar with Batman: DKR, there are two things you need to know:

1. Frank Miller's Batman story set the tone, for good or ill, that caused Batman and other comics in general to take on a grim n' gritty feel.

2. If you really don't know about this comic or it's significance, you have failed a core curriculum in your Geek Studies. For shame!

Read on for all the info and a gallery of photos featuring this eye-gougingly badass statue!

Toy Fair 2012: Hasbro's Marvel Legends

The monochrome reviews roll on here on MTV Geek with Hasbro's take on Fantomex from the second wave of Marvel Legends! FF Spider-Man was our first, and although they share a color scheme, Jean-Phillipe has nothing at all to do with the Wall-Crawler. He's a mutant that comes to us courtesy of Grant Morrison, so I won't even try to explain his backstory in the small confines of this review, but it is chronicled here. With the overwhelming popularity of Marvel Comics' Uncanny X-Force, we're kind of surprised it took until the second wave for one of it's members to make an appearance-- even more (and pleasantly) surprised it wasn't a repaint of Wolverine or Deadpool.

Toy Fair 2012: Diamond Select Toys "The Amazing Spider-Man" line

During Toy Fair 2012, we got to see all of the offerings from Diamond Select Toys. Among the highlights were the incredible busts and statue based on this year's upcoming film "The Amazing Spider-Man"! The Lizard is particularly striking with his fully outstretched arms. Speaking of which, we really dig that the entire upper bodies of the characters have been incorporated into the busts and not just the head and chest. With quality this high, we hope DST returns to high-end collectibles full-time!

"Sucker Punch", as with all Zach Snyder films, was visually impressive; from the robot-infested bullet trains to the trenches of zombie warfare, and the castle spires of a dragon's abode. However, one of the all-around greatest hallucinations to come out of Baby Doll's mind was that of a massive samurai warrior brandishing a minigun and ripping bullets throughout a burning dojo-- before Baby killed it, of course. Now Gentle Giant Ltd. is bringing that mind-blowing badassery to the masses with their latest statue release: The Sucker Punch Colossal Samurai with Minigun Statue! with a title that long, you just know it's gonna be good!

Toy Fair 2012: Hasbro's Marvel Legends

Hasbro certainly wasted no time between waves 1 and 2 of their Marvel Legends relaunch. While fans are still clamoring to catch up with their 6" addiction, the latest series of heroes and villains have begun popping in stores. Today, we're taking a look at the "All Star" figure for Wave 2: Spider-Man! While the regular version features his Tron-like duds from the Big Time storyline, this variant is sporting the costume Spidey wears when hanging around his teammates over at the Future Foundation. It's been a long time since we've been excited about owning a Spider-Man figure, so let's see if this newest version can break that streak!

Toy Fair 2012: Hasbro's G.I. Joe: Retaliation Toys

Last year, Hasbro released, what has become, the "ultimate" Snake Eyes figure and it scored rather high on our Top Ten Toys List. Now, the forces of Cobra have thrown their hat in the ring with Snake Eyes' polar opposite (color-wise at least): Tomisaburo (Tommy) Arashikage a.k.a. Storm Shadow! The 30th anniversary Joe line has been a standout and we find ourselves searching the pegs at any and all stores we happen to be in that carry them. Why would we suddenly be so into G.I. Joe when we're also collecting about a million other toy lines? Because of figures like this one! Read on as we review a ninja who wears white but can still kill undetected.

Toy Fair 2012: Diamond Select Minimates

Diamond Select Toys' Minimates have slowly become a collecting obsession around here and it doesn't look like that's gonna change anytime soon now that they're set to release miniaturized versions of our favorite characters from Image Comics' The Walking Dead! The first set sees Rick Grimes and Dale facing off against four different zombies-- each tiny, and in a different state of decay! Being Minimates, these will not only fit in scale-wise with the other releases from Marvel, etc., but can also share parts. That means all of our superhero Minimates are now at risk of the zombie outbreak! The Walking Dead Comic Series Minimates are planned for September, so we should have them stuffed into our pockets in time to enjoy the Halloween season.

Toy Fair 2012: Mezco Toyz Scares Up The Universal Monsters

The Universal Monsters, and the films they terrorized, are an integral component to American film history and we are glad to see the ol' Gang of Horrors getting their due with a number of action figure and toy releases. While Diamond Select Toys have been bringing out Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, and a number of others in their Select-scale, our pals over at Mezco Toyz are planning a full barrage of monsters in all styles and sizes! We gazed at the entire lineup during Toy Fair 2012, and now we're that much closer to owning them with the latest announcement that the 9" Frankenstein will be the first release! The styling on these hearkens back to Mezco's earlier lines like Gangsters Inc., Reservoir Dogs, and the stylized Tony Montana from "Scarface" with realistic texturing placed over more exaggerated sculpts. We can't wait to have this re-animated monster on our shelves in time for Halloween!

Read on for all the info straight from Mezco Toyz, along with a shot of the variant version of Frankenstein's Monster!

Toy Fair 2012: Hasbro's Marvel Legends

The Marvel Legends reviews just keep coming, and today we're taking a look at the catalyst for the upcoming Avengers vs. X-Men crossover: Hope Summers! The time-traveling mutant savior is easily the hardest to acquire figure from Hasbro's ML Wave 1. Sure, this is partly due to her being a short-packed female figure, but it is also a testament to just how popular she has become with fans of her Marvel Comics character and the importance that's being emphasized on her character as of late. For all intents and purposes, this red-haired mutant will be the new home of the Phoenix Force; but sadly, this Hope Summers figures may have more in common with Mr. Fantastic than Jean Grey.

Toy Fair 2012: Square Enix Visits Arkham

This week sees the release of Square Enix' latest action figure in their Play Arts KAI line: Batman! The Dark Knight is based on his appearance in the extremely badass "Batman: Arkham Asylum" video game and is quite possibly the BEST damn Batman figure in existence! (*That title will switch hands once the Hot Toys version comes out.) We first saw this figure at last year's San Diego Comic Con, and our unwavering desire to own him only grew when we were once again faced with his cowled visage during Toy Fair 2012. Now, only a month after the drool-worthy visit to Square Enix' booth, we have this action figure in our grasp! Upon picking him up at our LCS, we tore into his window box packaging and freed the "World's Greatest Detective" from his plastic prison so we could go on patrol together like best friends bring you this review!

SPOILER ALERT: If you're looking to read loads of negativity, you're looking in the wrong place. This figure is just that good!
