Dozza hopes he's done enough

Posted on: Mon 16 Apr 2012

GRAHAM Dorrans is hoping his wonder strike against QPR on Saturday is enough to keep him in Roy Hodgson's starting XI for the remaining four games of the season.

The Scotland international midfielder netted his second of the term, in only his 12th Baggies start, following a frustrating year.

The 24-year-old turned in another impressive performance as Albion all-but mathematically secured Barclays Premier League survival for the second consecutive season.

And he is now raring to go for the Baggies' final four league games against Liverpool, Villa, Bolton and Arsenal - beginning at Anfield on Sunday (ko 4pm).

"It was nice to see my shot go in but it was all about getting the three points and, thankfully, we managed to keep a clean sheet and get them," he said.

"A few people have said it was like my West Ham goal last season but, as I've said, the main thing was grinding out that performance.

"On a personal note, I hope I can get a run now. That was my aim as soon as I got into the side last week against Blackburn.

"I wanted to stay in for the rest of the season - and that's all I can do.

"I know I need to keep performing in all the games, because there are talented people on the bench who can come in and take that position."

Dorrans does not see any reason why Albion cannot bag points in all of their remaining games and propel themselves into the upper reaches of the Barclays Premier League.

"We want four wins and I don't see why we can't get them," added 'Dozza'.

"They will all be tough games but we will keep going. We won't slacken off.

"We will keep going until the very last minute of the very last game.

"We hope to finish above as many teams as we can.

"We have always been capable of getting together, playing good football and grinding out results - and that's what we did on Saturday.

"We will keep going and hopefully get as many points on the board as we can for the fans and everybody involved."

On his fortunes under Hodgson, Dorrans reflected: "The head coach came in and straight away I injured my ankle.

"Since then, it's been niggles all the way after that.

"But hopefully I can keep myself fit now.

"I have been fit for the last three or four months and hopefully I can continue to get stronger and stay in the side and push on.

"I have been working hard with our performance physio, Richie Rawlins, and the rest of the medical guys and hopefully that's me over the injuries now.

"I can hopefully keep working and get myself stronger.

"It's been frustrating - but everybody that is sitting on that bench and not in the team is frustrated they're not playing.

"That's how football works.

"You've just got to sit tight, work hard and keep going."
