Gloversville: Pit Bull Attacks Owner While Being Euthanized at Local Veterinary Hospital

March 29, 2012

Gloversville Police report they were called to theĀ Glove Cities Veterinary Hospital on Harrison Street when an American Pitbull bit its owner. That owner who remains unidentified was taken to Nathan Littauer Hospital for treatment. The extent of the woman’s injuries were not known although police say she suffered bite lacerations to the face.

Gloversville Police Department Captain John Sira tells us that the woman had brought the animal to the Vet because it had recently been displaying increasing aggressive behaviors. The dog had been in this owners care for about one year after being adopted from an unidentified Pit Bull Rescue Organization. Captain Sira reports that investigations in the incident note that the animal was muzzled when brought to the Animal Hospital. The decision was made to euthanize the dog. During that process the muzzle was removed and that is when the animal was able to attack. After the attack the animal was “put down”.

Gloversville Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Ambulance Service of Fulton County and the Gloversville Animal Control Officer.

When contacted a representitive of the Glove Cities Veterinary Hospital stated the organization would have no comment.

The incident occurred around noon today.

Why is it that when something happens with a pitbull it hits paper like nothing but if it was any other piece of s**t animal nothing is put in the paper

Duh, could it be that pits do 2/3rds of the fatalities by dogs? Or that they are mauling and killing in numbers unlike any other breed in history? Other breed attacks are most certainly reported in the papers but they are so few and far between, maybe you missed them.

I feel sorry for the poor woman who was bitten.

Was it an un-neutered male? Un-neutered male dogs of any breed tend to get aggressive.

Besides, if I was being euthanized I would have bit her too.

WOW people are IGNORANT! IM SO TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT PITBULL ATTACKS! When I see a station cover them I loose respect as they are just feeding into the media frenzy! I was bitten by a toy poodle years ago and sufferd bad nerve damage, but you dont see me going to the news or the news giving a darn about it! And Dave You have no right to say that about the poor woman that was bitten, shame on you! People don’t know the whole story but boy they like run their mouths.Such a shame and a Shame Rick Morrison that your buying into this type of story.

Thankful the woman had the sense of responsibility to take the aggressive animal to the vet! I feel bad for her; facial injury and lost a pet. Re the muzzle removal…someone in that office goofed.

Can’t automatically assume it was the dogs fault, nobody says what kind of past it had and why it was in a shelter in the first place, nobody says anything about being UTD on shots (DISTEMPER) or anything in the dogs defense, and like the other person said… if it was a Lab or a Chihuahua, would it have made the paper? I think not.

my father was a mailman and was bit over 100 times and not one of them was a “bully breed”

Oh bull crap. I am so tired of people making excuses for this s**t breed. There were six serious pit bull attacks in my area within the past couple of years, two were fatal. The fatalities were barely covered and the maulings were tiny blurbs in the paper, if they appeared at all. The reason ANY pit bull attacks make the paper is because they happen pretty much daily.

“It’s all in how you raise them”
“No bad dogs, only bad owners”
    “Deed, not breed”

Get a brain people! These dogs have been bred to fight as a lab has been bred to retrieve and a border collie to herd sheep. It’s what they do. I’m so tired of the dimwitted general public believing the lies spread by the antisocial shit bull lovers about their dangerous animals.

And yes, I know, there will be a million responses saying “my poopsie loves children! She would never hurt anyone! She would like you to death!” Sure she will. Until the day she doesnt.

There are so called humans out there that bully and brutally attack others —— do they all get put to death — there may have been circumstances no one knows about —- so really, you never really know about any dog under extreme conditions. And YES I own a pitbull – Am. bulldog and an akita/german shepard – - where these “dimwitted” “antisocial” human bullies raised that way – ????????? serial killers, rapists – “it’s what they do” SMDH
