My academic history includes an undergraduate degree in geology, a dissertation in integrative biology, and postdoctoral appointments at a genome center and the Encyclopedia of Life.

My research answers questions about threats to biodiversity and evolution of biodiversity through empirical investigations involving fieldwork, comparative morphology, genetics, and specimen-based research. I have active research projects that are solving problems in the Caribbean, South America, China, the Middle East, and USA (especially California).
