HANGOVER RACE RESULTS:
Sandusky Speedway ushered in 2012 with the 32nd Annual Hang Over Race on Sunday January 1. This race is run no matter what the weather but todays 50 mph wind gusts made things down right brutal. The lack of snow did nothing to deter the race fans from bringing their own snow and snow balls as there was a barrage of snow balls flying from the grandstands as the cars raced by.
In the Champagne Stocks the Heat Race win went to Ron Miller driving a topless Dirt Late Model. The remainder of the top five were Mark Kachemmaister, Jim Deutsch, Jeff Warnick and Steve Morris. In the twenty five lap Champagne Stock feature it was once again Ron Miller who has won eight out of the last nine Hang Over races. Dan Dippman was the early race leader for the first two laps before Mark Pollock took the point. Miller was working his way through the pack and took command of the lead on lap thirteen and was never seriously challenged for the lead. The top five were Ron Miller, Dan Dippman, Mark Kachemmaister, Jeff Warnick and Bob Swanson.
Joey Wyckoff won the Whiskey Stocks first Heat Race followed by Jason Parson, Cody Rose, Jason Dennis and Jerry Adkins. The second Heat Race winner was Mark Reasor followed by Cory Phillips, Jerry Adkins, Joe Quinn and Steve Jones. The twenty lap Whiskey Stock feature saw Joey Wyckoff take off with the lead and it appeared he would go on to take the checkered flag until lap ten when Wyckoff made contact with the backstraight wall. Wyckoff was not injured, but this ended his afternoon. The race would be red flagged one lap later when Drew Smith made hard contact with the wall coming out of turn two, Smith was not injured. On the restart it was Cody Rose the new leader who would go on to take the checkered flag. The top five were Cody Rose, Jerry Adkins, Jason St.John, Chris Priebe and Cory Phillips.
In the Moonshine Stocks it was Steve Morris winning the Heat Race. Following Morris was Rich Abel, Kenny Calhoun, Bob Swanson and Anthony Camilli. The fifteen lap Moonshine Stock feature saw two complete restarts before one lap was in the record books. When the field had settled down it was Rich Abel the leader for the first two circuits before Dan Dippman would take the lead for only lap three. The race leader on lap four was Tim Deutsch with Kenny Calhoun running a close second. Calhoun took the lead on lap eight and checked out on the field to take the checkered flag unchallenged. The top five were Kenny Calhoun, Tim Deutsch, Mark Kachemmaister, Kerry Rouse and Bob Swanson.
