Welcome to the National Grid Service (NGS) Wiki

The NGS wiki is provided as a place to find information, experiences, hints and tips about the resources and applications provided the NGS. Some of the information on the NGS wiki is written by the NGS support staff, but NGS users are also encouraged to contribute information which they think will help other users.

(NGS Wiki Disclaimer can be found [here (http://wiki.ngs.ac.uk/index.php?title=NGSWiki:General_disclaimer)]

The NGS

The NGS seeks to provide coherent electronic access for UK researchers to all computational and data based resources and facilities required to carry out their research, independent of resource or researcher location.

The main website for the NGS can be found here (http://www.ngs.ac.uk).

Where to start

The NGS wiki is organised through a number of categories, these are listed in the Community portal, and this is the best place to start. If you wish to contribute to the NGS wiki then please see the following section.

Contributing to the NGS Wiki

  • If you want to add content to this Wiki you will need a certificate from a Grid CA such as the UK e-Science CA (http://www.ngs.ac.uk/certoverview). Make sure your certificate is loaded in your browser (instructions here (http://www.ngs.ac.uk/certimport)), and create an account here (https://wiki.ngs.ac.uk/index.php?title=Special:Userlogin&returnto=Main_Page). Please also see advice (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Editing) on basic markup.
  • To add content, use the community portal (https://wiki.ngs.ac.uk/index.php?title=NGSWiki:Community_Portal).
  • Before you add a section it's worth browsing the names of all pages in the wiki to be sure that someone hasn't started an article with a slightly different name.
