1996: Classical form and new accents

Following the creation of the new vase collection in 1994 – the first result of intensive cooperation between Italian designer Enzo Mari and KPM's master craftsmen – the company presents the creative highlight of its collaborative work, the BERLIN dinner service, in 1996. The prototypes of the new form are exhibited in Berlin, Hamburg and Milan to unusually high acclaim. The convex-concave interplay of the plates’ rims demonstrates the compatibility of contrasts, the combination of tradition and innovation in a fascinating form, just like the city it is named after. The Design Award is bestowed on the BERLIN dinner service in 1998.

1998-2003: Renovation of the landmark production site

The company's entire building complex, referred to as the “KPM Quartier in der Spreestadt”, is carefully renovated by the renowned architectural firm of Gerkan, Marg und Partner (GMP) over the course of five years, taking into account historical preservation aspects. The production technology is also brought up to the latest standards. The ZEN service, inspired by the strength of far-eastern style, is created.
