LAS VEGAS (AP) — A developer is marking the arrival of steel cable for a giant observation wheel slated to open on the Las Vegas Strip in 2013.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that a dozen trucks are delivering enough cable Tuesday to stretch from the Strip to San Francisco. The cable will support the massive 500-foot observation wheel.

Developer Howard Bulloch also plans a foot court, restaurants and stores with the $200 million SkyVue development across the boulevard from the Mandalay Bay resort. The wheel will feature 32 gondolas seating 24 people each, plus huge LED signs.

The project is one of two observation wheels being built on the Strip. Caesars Entertainment Corp. is planning another as part of its planned $500 million Linq project farther north on the Strip.
