This policy violates the Americans with Disabilities Act because addiction is a protected disability. Also, people with disabilities living in Florida are 11.1% more likely to smoke than people without disabilities (CDC, 2009).This policy is unconstitutional. The ban on smoking in cars on UCF property violates Florida statute 386.2045, which states that tobacco smoking may be permitted in a private residence. Furthermore, this policy contradicts the State of Florida's preamble to the constitution because the policy does not guarantee equal civil rights. A campus smoking ban may dissuade youths who smoke from enrolling in college. And without higher levels of education, these youths are more likely to continue smoking (U.S. Dep of Health and Human Services, 1994).
This is asbolutely absurd! UCF is stupid, there are no consequences for actually smoking on campus, people are still going to do it. And anyways, I am a full grown adult and I know the risks of smoking and I still choose to do it. As an American adult, nobody can tell me where I can and cannot smoke, as long as I am outdoors. That being said, another problem that will arise from this extreme and ignorant change is you will be removing ashtrays, yet people will smoke. That means way more litter and trash on the ground. WAY TO GO UCF. idiots!
One of the scariest pieces of federal legislation since the PATRIOT Act is poised to pass the Republican-controlled U.S. House.Wow, the subtlety is overwhelming.
