SteelSeries Diablo 3 Headset Review

By Mike Nelson | PC Articles | May 25, 2012 5:41 PM | Comment

I'm only distracted by a pretty face for so long before I start to look around for something with a little more substance. Such is the case with the SteelSeries Diablo 3 Headset: it looks cool as hell (see what I did there?), but it's not going out of its way to do anything that special. Read More »

Mod The Thrill of The Hunt Into Skyrim

By Phill Cameron | PC Articles | May 25, 2012 4:16 PM | Comment

Back when Skyrim was first announced, this screenshot excited me more than any other. It wasn't dragons, and it had no giants. Crouched down low in the tall grass, a wood elf had stalked an elk in the distance, bow at the ready. It's an emergent story you can recreate in vanilla Skyrim, as there's wildlife that peppers the land, but modders (being modders) wanted more and better. They've taken a hatchet to the way wildlife works, and now with just three easy mods, you can create a hunting ground that's more friendly to your unfriendly loner hunter man. Read More »

Iron Front: Liberation 1944 Released, Needs to Iron Out Some Bugs

By Mike Nelson | PC News | May 25, 2012 3:00 PM | Comment

Iron Front: Liberation 1944 kind of stuck up on me. It wasn't until a few days ago that I had even heard of it, and if it wasn't for Steam's "Coming Soon" section, it would have remained completely off my radar. See, I've never had a chance to try out some of the more hardcore of the tactical shooter variety just yet, like ARMA II and Red Orchestra, but after reading up some more about Iron Front, I figured I'd take it for a spin. My immediate advice is this: hold off until a couple of patches iron out some launch day bugs. Read More »

Can SimRaceway Give iRacing a Run For Its Money?

By Andy Mahood | PC Articles | May 25, 2012 2:25 PM | Comment

Anyone who's followed my columns, reviews, and assorted rants over the past few years knows I'm a big fan of iRacing.com, the uber-authentic and highly challenging online racing sim service from former Papyrus (Grand Prix Legends, NASCAR Racing 2003) major-domo David Kaemmer. Despite its remarkable depth and fidelity, however, a sizeable segment of the sim racing community still eschew the service's subscription-based financial model for free-to-play alternatives like rFactor and GTR2.< Read More »

SWTOR Studio Layoffs: Star Wars MMO in Trouble?

By Katie Williams | PC News | May 25, 2012 10:56 AM | Comment

SWTOR's not had a pleasant time of it lately. The once-shimmering vessel has begun to grow old and creaky as players have jumped ship for new shores. Layoffs at BioWare have coincided with a report of alarmingly low player numbers on certain servers. What does this mean for current subscribers? Read More »

Kung-Fu Class is in Session: Sleeping Dogs 101

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | May 25, 2012 8:42 AM | Comment

Last February, Activision cancelled United Front Games' True Crime reboot because, as Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg put it, "In an industry where only the best games in each category are flourishing, to be blunt, it just wasn't going to be good enough." Well True Crime: Hong Kong managed to survive Activision's two-inch punch of death, and it's back (to deliver an ice-cold dish of revenge, I like to think) as Sleeping Dogs. And for a cancelled game, I must say, it's looking like a Grand Theft Auto and Hard Boiled mash-up I'd love to play. See for yourself in the latest lengthy video overview, Sleeping Dogs 101. Funcom Bumps Back The Secret World Launch

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | May 25, 2012 8:06 AM | Comment

The Secret World will keep its arcane mysteries, enigmas, and head-scratchers a bit longer. Funcom announced today that June 19 no longer feels right for the release of its conspiracy theory MMO. I like to believe the studio came to that conclusion after consulting ancient, crumbling calendars pulled from skeletal hands in trap-filled tombs. In reality, it looks like Funcom simply consulted the videogame release schedule and opted to move The Secret World to the less busy launch day of July 3. Read More »

Preview: Starbound

By Nathan Meunier | PC Previews | May 24, 2012 3:47 PM | Comment

Finn "Tiy" Brice is eager to point out his next big project, Starbound, is not a sequel to the million-selling indie hit Terraria -- a game for which he crafted the Super Nintendo-style pixel art. That likely won't stop players from drawing some obvious comparisons between the two, but as the head of new collaborative studio Chucklefish Games, Brice is pushing upwards and onwards to take his new sci-fi-tinged 2D sandbox RPG in a very different direction.
