Most fans know Kyle Katarn as the go-to default Jedi protagonist in the New Jedi Order. If you're not playing a videogame starring Luke Skywalker, you're probably running around with this guy.
But before he became the rogue Jedi Master that we all know and love today, Katarn actually started out as a decorated member of the Empire. The guy's seen it all from both sides of the war, and he's treaded through just about every obstacle the galaxy has to offer. In the Jedi Knight games, Katarn has been both a blaster-wielding tycoon and a level-headed master of the Force. His range of skills and experience really know no bounds.
Additionally, the character has been all over the map of personality traits. On the one hand, he's often used for confident wisecracks and one-liners, your typical "Don't get cocky" Han Solo fare. On the other hand, he's often portrayed as an intelligent thinker and a humble sage, not unlike an Obi-Wan Kenobi or a Qui-Gon Jinn. This mishmash of quirks and dispositions is probably what makes the character so endearing to fans since he can cater to pretty much anything you throw at him. But whatever the situation calls for, Katarn is at the ready to be a gamer's reliable blank slate, and that makes him one of the most "human" characters in the franchise.
