MR16 Bulbs

Bulbs come in every shape and size these days. Hardware stores have aisles filled top to bottom with every type of bulb imaginable, and the Internet is brimming with specialty stores that sell nothing but the most extensive variety of lighting and corresponding bulbs that vary from the tiniest LED to the largest search light bulb that can be seen for miles and miles. Perhaps, however, the more common of the light bulb world are MR16 bulbs. These bulbs come in a variety of sizes, powers and functions.

The MR in MR16 stands for multifaceted reflector. This describes the pressed glass reflector with surfaces consisting of many facets that are covered by a reflective coating.  This allows for the gathering of light from the filament to create a concentrated beam of light. The 16 in MR represents the diameter of the bulb. It stands for 16/8 inches in diameter, or 2 inches in diameter. This indicates the size of the bulb which is of great importance when searching for a bulb for a particular lamp or purpose.

MR16 bulbs come in a variety of different types, just like any other bulb. Though their method of gathering and displaying light is different than a standard bulb, they also vary in voltage and watts and even a variety of different bases that fit into different types of lamps.

Because of these differences, MR16 bulbs also vary in price. To find the right MR16 bulb for a particular lamp or purpose, be sure to read the fine print associated with the product to ensure the bulb does not burn out or is not compatible. For the best deals, look online and in stores for the right MR16 bulb and compare prices and features to get the best bulb for the buck.
