Y'all need to stop blaming TEPCO for this big old mess. Yes, they operate the nuclear power plant yet this could have happened to any company. TEPCO is not the only nuclear energy provider on this planet and I know they're not the only ones that use the GE Mark 1 reactor. Granted, this situation was probably not handled the best which could potentially lead to the end of the world, but this was inevitable once human beings discovered E=MC squared.

There's nothing we can do now but sit back and watch. Unit 4, unless by some ridiculous miracle support structure or foundation or something along those lines, will eventually sucumb to the beating it has received and topple over. It WILL happen, eventually. Once that happens it's game over, we all know that. The radiological release from just the Unit 4 spent fuel pool, not to mention what we have already experienced, is scary to think about to say the least.

But even worse, we'll lose the entire site; it will be way to contaminated for any human or even robots for that matter to get anywhere near. So bye bye common fuel pool, and unit 2, and…. EVERY FUEL ROD ON SITE! That will proabably be enough radiation to end the world on the spot. Unless we derive some sort of counter radioactive agent or a cure for cancer (*cough* marijuana *cough*) the world's population will begin to dwindle and thin.

So honestly, ya'll need to stop worrying about it cause there's nothing we or anyone can do about it.

While I see your point, Mickdallen, TEPCO IS a part of the bigger problem, and as such, is implicated in a system of lies, cover ups, denial, etc. that is endemic to the nuclear industry. So, while they certainly aren't the only ones culpable, that does NOT excuse them from being held accountable for their part in this overwhelming mess. And while I agree on the immensity and sheer awe-inspiring magnitude of the problem, I personally prefer not to give up, no matter how huge the problem seems.

While we may not see any solutions currently, I like to maintain hope that there may be one (or several) solutions just waiting to be invented by some industrious and ingenious folks who may very well be hard at work currently, unbeknown to us, on finding just such a solution.

NEVER give up hope. It is ultimately all we really have, when it comes right down to it…

tepco hs actually been nationlized run by the japense govt now who are 100% being advised by the US govt on what to release to the public and how to handle it. there is a solution, but it is not on this world, and it can only intervene when the governments acknowledge their presence and ask for their help, they likely wont, so the public needs to instead

Hi mickdallen234. I had a bit of a chuckle on reading your post for which I apologize. My amusement was due to how much the nuclear power industry are spending to have people take the position you indicate. I do you the courtasy of your not being in the employ of anything nuclear related. If correct, then they are spending millions weekly for something you are providing free of charge. I hope you can laugh at this as well, and maybe a cheque will arrive in your mailbox soon. If so, invest in something in the southern hemisphere.

Hey, hold on a minute, I could use some of those 30 Shekels myself. Naw, no, cannot, as the cost on the other side of the balance is too great.

Evil is allowed to flourish when good people do nothing. For me and my circle of friends as with, should I say all who post here, understand one thing. It is that this situation of power, money, and corruption is playing out in many theaters worldwide with our opponents not giving an inch, or a rat's ass about who they, through their lust for power and money, cause harm.

The examples that come to mind I will list below.

      1. Citizens United Corporations can freely bribe any amount to get their way, and to destroy whoever they want along that path. Thanks to the US Supreme Court.

      2. The nuclear industry at large buying politicians, scientists, physicians (the latest being Dr. Koji Okamoto). Even the World Health Organization. In addition destroying anyone who matters speaking out against them.

Maybe you have been following all of this and I am wasting energy by my hen pecking of the poor keyboard.

I believe in Japan right now, through the great work of everyone involved in this David and Goliath struggle, the people there are making their government pay attention. If we can continue and grow in opposition, it is my belief that the battle can be won.

There is a tremendous resource of information out there in many formats, which I hope you can access and please forgive my ignorance for presuming that you are not aware of them.

The link Kondy provided also lists a Counterpunch.org article by filmmaker Joe Giambone, which discussed the harmful effects of cesium, per Yablonsky's book on Chernobyl:

"Dr. Bandashevsky has placed hard numbers on the dangers of internal contamination from radiation,

"Chronic Cs-137 levels over 30 Bq/kg body weight is often associated with serious cardiovascular diseases 2."

"For children with cesium 137 in excess of 50 Becquerels/kg body weight, 'pathological disorders of the vital organs or systems will occur 3.' These levels can produce grotesque malformations in newborn babies and increase the risk of spontaneous abortions.

"The U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) says, "Both 134Cs and 137Cs emit beta particles and gamma rays, which may ionize molecules within cells penetrated by these emissions and result in tissue damage and disruption of cellular function 4."

        /snip

WATK: Something I also learned is that cesium collects in muscle tissue, including the heart. As such, people who are contaminated with cesium are at risk of heart attacks, as well as damaged circulatory systems (and are at risk for strokes).

Many of us here on enenews who live in the PNW or the West Coast of the U.S. seemed to notice an increase in heart attacks and strokes among family, friends, and just people in general, as reported in the news, post-Fuku. (as discussed in the "Possible Anomalies from Fukushima" forum. It would be interesting to confirm if there was a statistically significant increase in heart attacks and strokes since Fuku by checking with the CDC.

Also, I read that radiation exposure can also cause kidney failure. Interestingly enough, our healthcare insurance provider recently mailed us a newsletter entitled: "Diabetes and Heart Disease Awareness." We all know diabetes has been on the rise in the U.S., sadly, particularly among children. Perhaps the increased manmade radiation exposure we are all experiencing (prior to and now post-Fuku) has (at least partially) created this increase?

The newsletter mentions that kidney disease can also LEAD to heart disease, as it damages the kidneys' filters, causing them to leak protein into the urine, which in turn causes high blood pressure, which in turn can lead to CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease), heart attacks and strokes. (continued)…

I hadn't realized the link there…we have always been warned about eating too many fatty foods filled with high cholesterol.

Imagine the implications of failing kidneys due to radiation exposure in our food and water leading to higher levels of heart and kidney disease in the U.S. (in addition to the cesium build-up in our heart muscle)!

No wonder there is a media blackout on the true deadly nature of exposure to NEEDLESS manmade nuclear radiation from NPPs! The medical profession would be turned on its ear! Not to mention the uproar amongst our general population as people finally realized what the nuclear industry has done to poison our environment, our health..and our very DNA!

My self and my girlfriend of 37yrs. put out a garden every year in earth boxes. http://www.earthbox.com/ The plume that reached my area in Central Florida 12 days after the meltdowns was the highest in the world for a day or two. We ate our tomato's, cukes, peppers,,,, mostly right off of the vine as we graze mostly. We did not wash the produce as it rains almost nightly. (did not know the consequences then)

My point related to this thread…… we both had very healthy teeth and now we find ourselves at the dentist more than usual with tooth problems we have never experienced before including deterioration of the enamel in significant amounts. The dentist is perplexed. Upon mentioning radiation and a little back round of Fuku he promptly chuckled and said no way, you are just getting old. (both 62yrs.)

Well,,,, our teeth were white and healthy before the plumes. Just sayin'..

Prior to the Fukushima disaster, I was ambivalent on nuke power; not being too well informed, I generally accepted the spiel fed to the masses that is is generally 'green', 'safe', 'relatively cheap'. Research after the Fukushima disaster was the informative basis by which I flipped 180 degrees in perpsective. And the incredulous disconnects (like this industry may actually consume more energy that it consumes, and that it may be chief in contributing to global warming, etc) just continue to astound. After my initial shock of the horror we face, as an engineer, I was very angry with the whole industry concept of continuing to go head-strong with plant fabrication, while not having a concrete solution for the waste. This naturally led to a review of the historical basis and reasons for how it got to this point.

mickdallen234 raises the following basic points, for which dissertations could be written:

    I. "..this was inevitable once human beings discovered E=MC squared."

My observation and theory: The brains of birds in the Chernobyl area have gotten smaller. The children of those more affected by Chernobyl have severe mental handicaps. There is much more autism than ever before in the US which has had fallout exposures since the 1940s. So might Nature not choose to allow humans with smaller brains to survive so as not to create another disastrous technology that was an outgrowth of E=MC2 ???

I think about the genisis of nuclear alot. During the early part of the last century there were many facinating discoveries but beacuse nuclear contained the greatest power to destroy that facinated and took hold of those scientists.

Did they really have the power to destroy everything? Did they have the power to kill many at one time? Could they hold that power over everyone and from time to time set off bombs to facinate and scare..mankind acted in a very stupid way…then they invented the faux atomic energy plant that really acted as a weapons provider for more destruction, though on paper they wanted peace…so folks here we all are…surrounded by atomic weapons factories that are so high maintainence no one knows how to maintain them and the little gremlins are escaping their cages and attacking their creators…and yet there are still those who can see validity in it all..God help us!!

that's what I mean: those of us who know need to tell others not to engender panic but to educate and survive. Shelter in place has taken on new meaning. Take a look at NOLA and FEMA and you know what I mean. The suppression surrounding the use of nuclear weapons in bringing down the WTC on 9/11 still haunts me. There is no other explanation for the intense heat and fires that were inextinguishable for weeks and months afterwards, nor for the collapse of 3 billion pounds of buildings into two billion pounds of dust. Check out the cancers and respiratory diseases rampant since 9/11 especially among first responders. Bush and his cronies and PTB need to be held accountable; it's like a handful of US lunatics bombed a building in Turkey and the Dubai government responds by killing 80,000 blameless Canadians. Except that it was the US lunatics who brought this on themselves, perpetrated the crime, and used nuclear mini bombs carefully detonated to test what? the response of the American sheeple? It is genocide, population control, experimentation of the sickest intent, worse than Nazi science. Sorry, ranting now.

Quite a difficult task, What-About-The-Kids! People do not like at all to hear you talk about radioactivity. I have tried twice to warn friends about food and rain, nothing more than that. In both cases, they showed signs of perturbation and tried to change the subject before long. So I thought that maybe it was me to be radioactive. Problem is, most people can't easily bear the horror they feel when thinking of nuclear radiation. Most of them think of it as the Devil in person and you, in so far as his declared enemy, could be as dangerous as the Devil himself, if not more. Devil's friends sound way more reassuring, because they say things everyone wants to hear.
