Kayaks nowadays serve diverse purposes, ranging from slow and easy touring on placid water, to racing and complex maneuvering in fast-moving whitewater, to fishing and long-distance ocean excursions. Modern forms, materials and construction techniques have made it possible to effectively serve these modern needs while continuing to leverage the insights of the original Arctic invention.

The kayak was originally developed by the natives in the Arctic. The kayak was a useful and a necessary equipment to go hunting in the arctic environment, and therefore the design of it is a ongoing development, that still continues today, in order to strive for the perfect kayak.

The inuit kayak builders designed and built their boats based on their own experiences with the kayaks and that of the generations before them. The kayaks were a personal craft, each built by and for the man who used it - with assistance from his wife, who would sew the skins for the kayak.

Skin-on-frame kayaks are still being used by the natives in the Arctic, a few for hunting purposes but the majority for recreational use. The design of the kayak have a been very successful one - So successful that it is said that there are 4,000 different kayaks on the market today. What other product can brag about that?
