I can tell you for a fact that we never considered running this for the pageviews or to be “sensational.” This is a super-important topic, and relevant considering the Luke Magnotta thing.
For me, one of the most damning / compelling points was that after the Icepick video was posted, no one immediately thought to call the police. This tells me that people aren’t thinking about what they watch on the internet, they’re just accepting it as "entertainment."
It is important to have meaningful discussions about the fact that this stuff is on the internet, and what it means now that the means of production and distribution are so readily available. I’m glad that we’re helping facilitate this discussion, and that we didn’t shy away from it.
