Salmon Farms

Open pen fish farms such as the three salmon facilities currently proposed for the Eastern Shore are causing quite a stir. Facebook Group , letters, petitions & more Click here!

What's the Issue in a Nutshell?
Those opposed cite environmental disasters. Legal battles are still being fought between fishermen, who have lost their livelihood and the aquaculture industry who purportedly contaminated fishing grounds in BC, Ontario and other parts of Nova Scotia. The industry, gov't, etc seem to support the 'proceed with caution' theory based on new techniques that they say prevents such destruction to the environment.

I love the Eastern Shore!

Essentials

Editorial Focus
Every magazine has an editorial 'slant'. At Highway 7 Online, we believe in good old-fashioned values, giving what we can to show off our Eastern Shore to the rest of the world and following the principles of sustainable development. Like the people who live along Nova Scotia's 'real' Hwy#7, we use today's technology to learn from the past, pay attention to the present, and build for the future. Read more...

C.E.D. Community Economic Development
Across Nova Scotia, people are banding together with one goal in mind - to make their communities better places to live and work. They're doing C-E-D: community economic development.
Common Dreams
It's been said that dreams are our roadmaps to the future. If so, where are we headed? Common Dreams offers an eclectic mix of politics, issues and breaking news with an emphasis on progressive perspectives that are increasingly hard to find with our corporate-dominated media.
