China: Woman Forced to Abort at 8 Months, his husband says

Husband: China Forces Wife to Abort at 8 Months - CBS News:
"A pregnant woman in south China was detained, beaten and forced to have an abortion just a month before her due date because the baby would have violated the country's one-child limit, her husband said Thursday.

Construction worker Luo Yanquan said his wife was taken kicking and screaming from their home by more than a dozen people on Oct. 10 and detained in a clinic for three days by family planning officials, then taken to a hospital and injected with a drug that killed her baby.

Family planning officials told the couple they weren't allowed to have the child because they already have a 9-year-old daughter, Luo said.

For the last 30 years, China has limited most urban couples to just one child in a bid to curb population growth and conserve its limited resources. China has the world's largest population, with more than 1.3 billion people. Couples that flout the rules face hefty fines, seizure of their property and loss of their jobs.

The case is an extreme example of the coercive measures Chinese officials sometimes use to comply with the strict family planning regulations. Though illegal, police and judicial authorities often look the other way when forced abortion cases are reported and the heavily censored state media shy away from such news.

But in recent years, victims have begun to speak out about their ordeals with the help of the Internet and text messaging. Aiding them are social campaigners and lawyers who have documented cases of forced late-term abortions. Similar abuses have been reported in Hebei and Shandong provinces and in the Guangxi region. "
I know this is not the main subject of this blog, but this is so monstrous that I have at least to mention it.

US: Gadahn is back!

Gadahn "cautioning" infidels with love about their future if they don't convert to Islam
American al-Qaida spokesman urges Muslims to carry out attacks in US, Europe | StarTribune.com:
"An American spokesman for al-Qaida is urging Muslims in the United States and Europe to carry out attacks there.

In a video posted on militant websites Saturday, Adam Gadahn directed his appeal to Muslim immigrants in what he called the 'miserable suburbs' of Paris, London and Detroit as well as those traveling to the West to study or work.

Gadahn grew up on a farm in California and converted to Islam before moving to Pakistan in 1998 and reportedly attending an al-Qaida training camp. He has been wanted by the FBI since 2004."

China: military experts urge int'l cooperation against urban terrorism

Chinese military experts urge int'l cooperation against urban terrorists - People's Daily Online:
"'Strike-2010' Sino-Thai joint anti-terrorism drill came to an end in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Oct. 19. In this joint drill, which focused on urban anti-terrorism for the first time, both parties conducted an in-depth exchange with each other on how to deal with urban terrorist activities so as to lay a solid foundation for urban anti-terrorism cooperation between the two countries in the future.

"Urban terrorist activities are a public hazard to international community!" said Tao Guang, head of the Chinese Guidance Team of this joint drill. Nowadays, cities have become “hotspot” sites for terrorists to produce terrorist activities. They endeavor to produce various types of terrorist attacks in important cities, so as to reach their political, economic and other purposes.

As pointed out by Tao Guang, urban terrorist attacks are usually launched during important events, such as during the Munich Olympics Games in 1972 when a terrorist organization hijacked and killed 9 Israeli athletes.
"

This is magnificent, but are they going to consider fundamented accusations of terrorism funding by Chinese institutions when they are told about them? Or are they going to consider them only when they are directed only at China?

US: Man who admitted plotting to blow up Dallas office tower 'intended to die' for bin Laden

The Canadian Press: FBI: Man who admitted plotting to blow up Dallas office tower 'intended to die' for bin Laden:
"Hosam Smadi did two things before pushing the button he hoped would blow up a 60-story office tower and kill thousands of people that still bother FBI officials 13 months later.

Hosam Maher Smadi
An undercover agent posing as an al-Qaida terrorist offered Smadi ear plugs. He declined, saying he wanted to hear the explosion. Then he used his cellphone to secure a ghastly souvenir — a final picture of the building before it blew.

The inside story of the investigation, compiled from court documents and interviews with FBI officials in Dallas, is a tale of how the FBI stayed ahead of the would-be terrorist, giving him a decoy bomb and preventing him from harming anyone.

FBI officials offer a different portrayal of the meek, mild and apologetic young man who spoke politely to the judge during his two day sentencing hearing, which ended Tuesday with Smadi receiving 24 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.
"He absolutely believed he had found al-Qaida, was committing an act on the scale of 9-11 and that he was going to get away with it," Tom Petrowski, the supervisory agent who led the FBI operation, told The Associated Press. "He loved (Osama) bin Laden more than his parents. He said he would die for him, intended to die for him, expected to die for him. He believed to the core that this was his destiny."
What a love story...

Netherlands: Restart for Dutch anti-Islam lawmaker's hate speech trial

Geert Wilders
Restart for Dutch anti-Islam lawmaker's hate speech trial < Dutch news | Expatica The Netherlands:
"The hate speech trial of Dutch anti-Islam lawmaker Geert Wilders will start afresh after judges trying him were ordered to step down Friday by a panel of their colleagues at the politician's request.

'The trial will start afresh,' Amsterdam district court spokeswoman Mercedes Grootscholten told AFP after a panel of oversight judges said Wilders' concerns of bias on the part of his trial judges were 'understandable'.

Judge GH Marcus, the president of a panel convened to consider Wilders' request for the judges' recusal, said their denial of his request to recall a witness 'appears to be in conflict with the applicable jurisprudence'.

'We find the applicant's fear that the court's decision points to a degree of bias, also in light of earlier incidents, understandable,' the judge said.

Wilders, 47, went on trial on October 4 for inciting hatred by calling Islam 'fascist' and likening the Koran to Hitler's 'Mein Kampf'.

There have been seven days of hearings so far. Judgement had been set for November 5."

Somalia: schoolboy tells of how Islamists cut off his leg and hand

More barbarity from Somalia: Somali schoolboy tells of how Islamists cut off his leg and hand:
"He has learned to button his shirt using only his left hand, to roll his sleeve with his teeth, to balance on his right foot in the shower. He cannot forgive, though he is desperate to forget. But at night his dreams betray him.

This is how it happened, Abdulle told the Guardian. He was a prisoner in an insurgents' house in Mogadishu, lying on his side, one hand chained to his ankles. He was 17, with fluff on his cheeks and unspeakable fear in his heart. Three other young men were with him – Jalylani, Ali, Abduqadir.

A guard, from the Islamist group al-Shabaab, which is trying to overthrow the Somali government, gripped his shoulder. 'Ismael Khalif Abdulle, come with me.'

A convoy of rebel battlewagons cleared the way through the battered streets. Reaching Masalah, an old military barracks, he saw his mother through the car window and shouted to her. The guard slapped his face. 'Today is not the day to call your mother,' he said.

Ordered to witness the punishment of the "spies and bandits" or face lashes themselves, the entire neighbourhood had assembled. Also watching were some of the Shabaab's top leaders – Sheikh Mukhtar Robow, the Somali-Swede Fuad Shangole, and Abu Mansoor Al-Amriki, the American who recruits and finances foreign fighters.
In the middle of the stony parade ground were about 20 militiamen in green fatigues. Their faces were masked. They were wearing surgical gloves. On the ground was a single plastic mattress.
Abdulle says he was made to lie down. His left hand was tied to his right ankle with a thick rope, leaving the other limbs free for what was to come. Rubber surgical tubing bit into his right biceps – a tourniquet. One rebel grabbed his hand, another his forearm. They pulled in opposite directions as a piece of plastic was laid over his wrist.
"Please make it quick," he pleaded.
A heavily built man drew a large wooden-handled knife normally used to slaughter camels. The knife descended.
Though their horror was far from over, Abdulle and the three other young men "cross amputated" – a process of cutting off a hand and foot from opposite sides of the body – by the Shabaab on 26 June 2009, eventually escaped from their Islamist captors, and managed to cross to the government-controlled side of the city. Abdulle recently managed to flee Somalia, and reach a safehouse in Nairobi, Kenya, where he gave this interview.
His story offers a rare insight into how the Shabaab is using its extreme interpretation of Islam to establish order through fear – and to find recruits.
Abdulle was born in 1992, a year after the last effective government fell, and warlords took over the country. As far as it is possible to have a normal upbringing amid the anarchy, he did. Once Shabaab forces took full control of the Bakara market area where he lived, in early 2009, security immediately improved – but at a huge cost to personal and social freedoms.

Russia: Moscow Has a Mosque Controversy Too

Moscow Has a Mosque Controversy Too - World News - ABC News Radio:
"The Moscow media have already christened this patch of green 'the Russian Ground Zero' in a reflection of strife over the mosque being built near Ground Zero, the site where the twin towers of the World Trade Center stood in New York City before the terror attack of 9/11.

The country's largest online newspaper, Gazeta.ru, drew parallels with other European controversies surrounding Islam: The burqa ban in France and the immigration debate now raging in Germany. Europeans are frightened of Islam because the religion's values are utterly foreign to them, the article said. 'Now we are experiencing something similar in Moscow and St. Petersburg.'"
Another moron. No one is afraid of Islam. Every Western human being with common sense is angry at politicians saying they support separation from State and Religion. But there come several barbaric "Islamic clerics" who are supporting seggregation of women and men and Muslims and non-Muslims, Jihad, the Caliphate, stoning of "dirty women" and several other pre-historic ideas and, as they threat with "riots", "violence" and several other "peaceful" and "loving" things, and end "convincing" those same politicians that they should implement their religious law. If those same politicians would be somewhat coherent would fight whatever attempt to hack that separation. Of course, they aren't.
According to estimates by the Moscow council of muftis (equivalent to a council of deacons in the Christian faith), up to 20 million Muslims live in Russia today. Muslims have dominated some parts of the country for centuries. While the predominantly Muslim Republic of Tatarstan in the Volga region is regarded as moderate, guerrillas are fighting to set up an Islamic state in the northern Caucasus. Islamic extremists were behind the suicide bomb attacks that shook the Russian capital this March and killed 40 people.

The planned mosque would only be the fifth in Moscow, even though this metropolis of 10.5 million has more than 1.5 million Muslim residents. In comparison, Berlin, which has a proportion of Muslims amounting to less than a sixth of Moscow's, has at least six large mosques. That is why the Moscow council of muftis wants more mosques to be built and says Moscow should have up to 40.

The Moscow mufti council, which is responsible for building the mosque, is convinced that nationalists are behind the protests against their house of worship. They say that the mosque will be built at the edge of the park anyway, leaving plenty of room for recreation and dog walkers. "The problem lies elsewhere," says Ildar Aljautdinov, the imam at Moscow's largest mosque. He warns that some Muslims may become radicalized if they don't have mosques to worship in. "We must build more mosques," he says. "Otherwise something bad will replace the religion."
See? Let us build the mosque or else! Imagine what these Muslims would tell if Christians in Saudi Arabia would do the same. Laugh at them and then call the Police against Vice to arrest them. Even if they are foreigners.

Cafe fan banned in case smell of bacon offends Muslims - Telegraph:
"Planning officials acted against Beverley Akciecek, 49, after being told her next door neighbour's Muslim friends had felt ''physically sick'' due to the ''foul odour.''

The fan has been in Beverley's Snack Shack takeaway in the Shaw Heath area of the town for the past three years.

And the mother-of-seven whose husband Cetin, 50, is himself a Turkish Muslim work more than fifty hours a week buying, preparing and cooking hot and cold sandwiches and hot-pots for their customers.
But neighbour Graham Webb-Lee complained that his Muslim friends refused to visit him becase they ''can't stand the smell of bacon.''(So, what Graham? Just go to visit them!).

And councillors at Liberal Democrat run Stockport Council in Greater Manchester ruled the 'odours given off from the vent were unacceptable for neighbouring residents.'
Mrs Akciecek who plans to appeal against the decision said, "I just think it's just crazy. Cetin's friends actually visit the shop, they're regular visitors, they're Muslim people, the come in a couple of times a week.

''I have Muslim people come in for cheese toasties. Cetin cooks the food himself, he cooks the bacon."

Synod: Egyptian Coptic Church representative tells members that "it has come awfully late"

From one pope to another: Middle East synod comes awfully late | National Catholic Reporter: "
Pope Shenouda III (Wikipedia)
"His Holiness Pope Shenouda III entrusted me with the mission to attend the Synod as his representative, and to express his warm gratitude to His Holiness for extending an invitation to partake in the Synodal works. He entrusted me with delivering a tribute of fraternal love to Your Holiness and to all the members of the Synod, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying and hoping that God will let the Synod bear its desired fruits for the good and consideration of the Christians of the Middle East.
Allow me to say that this Synod comes at a very late stage, as the conflicts and persecutions that our region suffers from have multiplied and turned into lamentation and suffering, resulting in the migration of a large number of the finest young Christians, leaving their homelands behind. I also mean leaving their hearts behind, with their history, authentic culture and tradition, in order to live and take refuge in another country, whose traditions and way of life are strange to them, not in line with their nature, but, compared to what they went through, still more secure and safer, providing them and their children with the hope of a better future.
The title of this Synod on communion and witness takes on a new meaning and significance with regard to the suffering and challenges faced by the Christians of the Middle East, due to precarious and complex political conflicts, particularly the Arab-Israeli conflict, as well as the wars this region has witnessed and still is enduring; wars that have caused an upsurge in Middle Eastern problems, where, as a reaction, anti-Jewish and anti-Christian Salafist movements alike were launched, while the spirit of hatred, rejection of the other and isolationism were felt on the other side in response to the psychological pressure and persecution. That, to the point of martyrdom, marginalization and the feeling of being “non-native” citizens enduring discrimination at work and in political institutions and parliamentary and local councils.

UK: Hardliners call for deaths of Surrey Muslims

Hardliners call for deaths of Surrey Muslims - Home News, UK - The Independent:
"Islamic extremists have started openly calling for the destruction of a controversial Muslim sect in a major escalation of sectarian conflict within British Islam, an investigation by The Independent has revealed.

Members of the Ahmadiyya Community have seen a significant upsurge in threats and intimidation over the past four months, sparked by an extremist attack on two of their largest mosques in Pakistan earlier this year.

Hardline Islamists in Britain have been distributing leaflets calling for the murder of AhmadiMuslims in Kingston-upon-Thames whilst mosques have been vandalised in Newham and Crawley. Preachers in south London have also been orchestrating a boycott of Ahmadi businesses and Ofcom has had to reprimand an Islamic satellite channel for repeatedly calling the sect 'Wajib-ul Qatal' - an Arabic phrase used to describe those who digress from mainstream Islam that translates as 'liable for death'. (A reprimand? The TV channel should have been immediately shut down for inciting to murder...).
Community leaders say the upsurge in animosity towards Ahmadis is directly linked to violence in Pakistan where local Taliban militants have declared war on sects that they deem to be heretical such as the Ahmadis and the Shi'a.
Although the Ahmadis have been targeted by extremists in the past, the combined attacks on two mosques in Lahore in May was the most brazen assault on their community yet, with 93 worshippers killed as they gathered for Friday prayers, including a number of Britons."
The Religion of Peace, whose followers aren't at peace even between them...

Interview: A Conversation with an Iranian Ayatollah

Among other non-Catholics speaking at the Synod, there was an Iranian Ayatollah, Ayatollah Mohaghegh, and Catholic National Register interviewed him. I don't think his views are interesting at all, because Iranian propaganda is so important across the world, that we all know what are they. Anyway, it's interesting to see the brainwashing the mullahcracy has done, even in "intellectuals":
Ayatollah MOHAGHEGH
"Q: Muslims who convert to Christianity are reported to suffer restrictions in Iran [Note from the interviewer: some say they are treated as renegades and traitors to Islam].

A: Freedom to choose a religion is one thing, conversion is something else. You need to differentiate between them. What does conversion mean? If I’m a Christian, for example, and after one or two years suddenly I declare that I am now outside the faith and tell everyone that they shouldn’t be a Christian, that Christianity is a hateful religion, then any Christian person would be bothered by such statements.

Q: Yet they should still be free to make them?

A: If conversion means taking action against Islam, then it’s not permissible. You are not allowed to take action against Islam by propaganda. We don’t allow such acts to be made against Christianity in Iran either.
He also says that if a person converts to another religion and "keeps it private", there is no problem. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, "freedom of religion is defined as the freedom of an individual or community, in public or private, to manifest religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance". So, he is really contradicting himseld, specially after a pastor has been condemned to death because he converted from Islam (Note: so, no news!).
Q: The relationship between Islam and politics is a close one, particularly in Iran. Just how close are you to the political class in the country?

UK: Two Britons linked to al-Qaida planned to attack Danish newspaper

Two Britons linked to al-Qaida plans to attack Danish newspaper | World news | The Guardian:
"A British al-Qaida sympathiser living in Derby volunteered last year to help with a terrorist attack on targets in Denmark including the offices of the newspaper that published cartoons of the prophet Muhammad, secret documents obtained by the Guardian reveal. A second British man is alleged to have handed over cash for the plot.

The two men were visited in August 2009 by David Headley, an extremist born in Pakistan but raised in the US, where he is now in custody. Headley, who was arrested two months later, was working for Ilyas Kashmiri, a senior Pakistani militant with links to al-Qaida.
Kashmiri, whom al-Qaida leadership figures have named as part of Osama bin Laden's group, told Headley to focus on a plan to attack the offices of the Danish Jyllands-Posten newspaper, which had published controversial cartoons of the prophet in 2005. He gave Headley $1500 (£954) to finance a surveillance trip. More general attacks in Denmark were also discussed. Headley said he understood that they might involve suicide bombings.
According to the documents, Kashmiri told Headley the two men in Derby – who were originally from Kotli, in north-east Pakistan – would help him. It transpired that one of the men had fallen out with Kashmiri, accusing the militant leader of allowing his son to steal funds for jihad, but he did agree to provide money for the mission; the other man "was available" for the attacks in Denmark, the documents reveal. These are based on 34 hours of interviews with Headley conducted by Indian investigators this summer.
They also describe in detail how Headley, having been deeply involved with the Lashkar-e-Taiba group in Pakistan and having conducted repeated surveillance trips for the Mumbai attacks, became involved with Kashmiri and, at one remove, al-Qaida. After spending six years with Lashkar, Headley said he became "mentally distanced" from the group and felt that the global agenda of Kashmiri and al-Qaida suited him better."

Sudan: Is Separation after the Referendum Possible?

Special Report on the Sudan: Is Separation after the Referendum Possible? - International - Catholic Online:
Omar al-Bashir, AU meeting
"why is the North hell bent on retaining this area? The simple answer is: Oil. The south is oil rich with the Khartoum government administering the sale of this oil. If the South were to separate then Khartoum would lose much of its wealth. Additionally, allowing autonomy to Southerners means that similar call from Darfur in the West and slowly the domination of the Islamist government of this large country (covering a surface area as vast as the entirety of Western Europe) begins to disintegrate.

The likelihood of Khartoum (supported by the Arab League) allowing this to occur is close to zero. Omar-al-Bashir, president of Sudan (president since the military coup of 1989 and -my note- accused of genocide by ICC) is already making excuses as to why the government will renege on the agreement under the Comprehensive Peace agreement."
Source.

I expect all the "no more blood for oil" crowds are preparing themselves avidly to protest against a real war about oil.  If they were coherent and not anti-US basically.

Of course, in reality, I am not the least optimistic of anyone protesting: there is no dreaded Western leader accusing Sudanese regime of what it is. A genocidal regime of non-Muslims and also of non-Arab Muslims. Racism, religious persecution, violence, Janjaweed.

Meanwhile, the international community is condemning Europe and the US about "Islamophobia", because of the full veil bans and the Ground Zero mosque affair. When the problems will begin, that hypocrite international community will just say that "we didn't know" or "how dreadful" but without doing anything to prevent violence before it has taken place.

Pathetic. Disgusting. Hypocritical.

UK: "Muslim brothers in Britain" fund Taliban, who are ready to attack everywhere...including Britain

The importance of stopping terrorism funding is again seen: it's not only that there are people who actually get paid for their "terrorist services", but that there are people who are actually profiting of the terrorism's activities. Not only politically, as normally people will consider their "influence" so their actual behaviour will change, but also financially, thanks to the economic movements that are caused by terrorist activities (i.e. assurance firms after an attack normally have to pay large sums of money, so their shares will have lower value or business made under threat of terrorist activity will be different than those made in a normal situation). So with all of you the Taliban's say that a) they are ready to attack UK and b) that they will do it with the money sent by their "Muslim brothers", from Metro.co.uk:
"In an interview due to be broadcast on Thursday, an Afghan commander of the terror group said recruits here were awaiting orders to carry out a strike on British soil.

He also said Britain is the Taliban’s biggest source of funding.

In an interview with Sky News at a secret location, the terror leader said: ‘We send a message to all foreign nations that we will attack them at any time. It could be in the next two weeks or it could be today, tomorrow or the day after.

We will attack Britain as well. We have trustworthy people who will listen to us and are waiting for our orders.’

The current threat level from international terrorism in Britain is ‘severe’, meaning a terrorist attack is ‘highly likely’, according to the Home Office. The Taliban commander said the group received most of its funds from Britain, from individual donations in mosques and community centres.

He said the money goes through Pakistan and is allocated to Taliban groups hiding in mountains along the Afghanistan/Pakistan border.

He added: ‘We get donations from our Muslim brothers in Britain for Jihad. This is how we get our money and buy our weapons and carry on fighting.’"
We hope that this time MI5 will not tell them that they are doing right, as it just their freedom of expression or "hey those are just idiots", as happened with Abu Hamza, that hooked hateful cleric who is now sobbing about losing British nationality.

Chesser pleaded guilty to three counts including communicating threats, soliciting others to threaten violence and providing material support to al-Shabaab, the Somali militant outfit with suspected links to al-Qaeda proscribed by the U.S.
He also published residential addresses of the writers of South Park and urged online readers to 'visit' them.
The charges carry a prison sentence of up to 30 years.

US: Number of Muslims "thriving" according to statistics

The Land of the Free | The Weekly Standard:
"Some immigrants from the Middle East are Christians escaping persecution... But the vast majority are Muslims. Plausible estimates of the number of Muslims in America vary widely, from 1.3 million to five million. But there is a consensus that Muslim Americans’ share of the population is climbing.

According to a large survey by the American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS), the number of people in America who described themselves as Muslims more than doubled between 1990 and 2008, from 527,000 to 1.35 million.
By other measures, too, American Muslims are thriving. According to the ARIS study, 35 percent of American Muslims age 25 years and older have college degrees, a share equal to or higher than that of any other religion except Judaism and “Eastern religions.” And a Cornell University study found that Muslim Americans generally earn more money than Americans of other religions.
The deeper irony in the ongoing debates over religious liberty and freedom of speech in America is that these debates wouldn’t even be allowed to take place across most of the Muslim world.
A December 2009 Pew Forum survey on religious freedom found that 70 percent of the world lives in areas of high restrictions of religion. Many of those affected are Christians living in Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East.
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, freedom of religion is defined as the freedom of an individual or community, in public or private, to manifest religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance. No matter how it is defined, religious freedom is not a right enjoyed by most of the approximately 12 to 17 million Christians in the Middle East."
Western countries are so Islamophobic that Muslim immigration is coming towards them, not the other way round. When are we going to start speaking about "non-Muslim-phobia" in the Islamic countries?

Germany: Turkish hackers attack CDU websites

Turkish hackers attack CDU websites - The Local:
Foto: Imago (Msn).
"Police and domestic intelligence agencies are now investigating in both the city-state of Hamburg and the northern state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania after CDU officials said their party sites were paralysed overnight when hackers replaced their homepages with a black background featuring a Turkish crest and critical comments.

Hackers “GHoST61” and “Emre Y” had left their mark claiming responsibility for sabotaging the site, with the comment, “Hi Hamburg: We are from Turkey.”

In Hamburg the CDU took its website offline by mid-morning on Tuesday, spokesperson Anna Christina Hinze said.

The Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian arm of the CDU had a similar experience, discovering that their website had been replaced with an Ottoman Empire crest and some pointed questions about the party’s immigration policies. Their site was repaired by afternoon.

The hackers left a message asking: “Where is the money for integration? Where is the money for mosques?” and “Where is the tolerance? Where is the freedom of religion?“"
Does Turkey pay for non-Muslim temples? That's somewhat strange if we consider that not a week ago Turkish Minister Faruk Çelik called Christians "kuffar". And they have a policy absolutely contrary to, for example, Constantinople's Patriarchy, Turkish nationalists prayed in an ancient Armenian Cathedral and, lastly, there are some questions about Catholic priests murdered in the country, which haven't been addressed.

That is called reciprocity and you can't make others do what you aren't prepared to do yourself.

Turkey: Erdogan's party loses key vote on headscarf ban

Good news. Politicians fail to find common ground on lifting Turkey's head scarf ban | StarTribune.com:
"Turkey's governing party failed to win key opposition support on Wednesday for plans to lift a ban on the wearing of Islamic head scarves at universities, a deeply divisive issue in a country with secular laws and a Muslim population.

The conflict over the head scarf reflects a struggle over Turkey's direction between the Islamic-oriented government, which argues for more religious freedom, and critics who believe the country's secular principles are in peril.

In Turkey, women are free to wear Islamic head scarves, but students, teachers and state-employed officials are not."

US: Anwar Al-Awlaki dined at the Pentagon months after 9/11

Anwar Al-Awlaki may be the first American on the CIA's kill or capture list, but he was also a lunch guest of military brass at the Pentagon within months of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, Fox News has learned.

Documents exclusively obtained by Fox News, including an FBI interview conducted after the Fort Hood shooting in November 2009, state that Awlaki was taken to the Pentagon as part of the military’s outreach to the Muslim community in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.

...According to the documents, obtained as part of an ongoing investigation by the specials unit "Fox News Reporting," there was a push within the Defense Department to reach out to the Muslim community.

"At that period in time, the secretary of the Army (redacted) was eager to have a presentation from a moderate Muslim."

In addition, Awlaki "was considered to be an 'up and coming' member of the Islamic community. After her vetting, Aulaqi (Awlaki) was invited to and attended a luncheon at the Pentagon in the secretary of the Army's Office of Government Counsel."

Awlaki, a Yemeni-American who was born in Las Cruces, N.M., was interviewed at least four times by the FBI in the first week after the attacks because of his ties to the three hijackers Nawaf al-Hazmi, Khalid al-Mihdhar and Hani Hanjour. The three hijackers were all onboard Flight 77 that slammed into the Pentagon.

They chose a very "moderate" Muslim...
