Facebook has rolled out a new feature for some users that shows the percentage of brand page fans who saw as well as Liked recent posts.

The average post from a brand page only reaches 16% of fans, Facebook revealed earlier this year.

The feature, which also includes a breakdown of organic and viral responses, comes as Facebook begins to provide more analytics to advertisers looking to track their ROI across the social network. Post-IPO, the company is under pressure to monetize its huge reach for advertising purposes.

The new feature appears to be available only for brand pages.

Update: A Facebook rep told Mashable that the feature was available in the old design for Pages, but “we are slowly rolling this back to Page owners with a slighly updated design.”

  2. Gutsy move by Facebook considering it needs ad dollars to grow. If I’m managing a brand and I see that I’m receiving very little results in terms of engagement/readers, than I’m taking my advertising elsewhere. Will be interesting to see what effect this has on their future revenues but analytics are a good thing so I wish them luck.


    • This is to encourage ad spend. If you’re a brand not buying ads and only reaching 10% of your audience then FB offers you the ability to reach a higher percentage via the Reach Generator – https://www.facebook.com/business/fmc/guides/reach


      • But we paid for that audience to begin with when we bought display ads to grow the fan pages. This is Facebook pulling a Tyler Durden and selling our fat asses right back to us. If I have to pay twice to be heard I can find places with less work online for a brand. When Facebook first opened it’s doors you could reach over 100% of your audience when you tracked impressions. Now your community is just a meaningless number.


    • The question is whether the numbers are accurate or not. Since they want to encourage Pages to pay to promote their updates to reach a wider audience it would be in Facebook’s best interest if the numbers looked low.


      • Or if they just purposely make the number low by not showing it to many of your fans. Then they slide in like heroes and offer to charge you a fee so the people who already wanted to see your stuff now actually get to see it.

        It would be like mailchimp deciding it was only going to send 16% of my emails to anyone but then offering to send it to everyone who already opted-in as long as I paid them extra.

        If anyone else tried this, there’d be a lot louder fuss.



  3. Nice feature. The Facebook Insights available to Page Admins are very helpful.


  4. This is part of their new “promoted posts” scheme, which I’m surprised not to have seen Mashable cover yet. Notice on the screenshot at the bottom it says “0% promoted.” Fan pages will be able to pay anywhere from $5-$300 per post to “promote” their post, getting it into the newsfeeds of a higher percentage of their fans depending on what they pay. In other words, charging us to show people what they clicked “like” in order to see in the first place.


  5. This information is already available in our Insights, you just have to do the math yourself to figure out the percentage. My reach typically ranges from 30% to 40%.

  7. It would be nice if Facebook would define “saw a post.” I assume it means “somewhere within scrollable reach, no matter how far down, when a person logs in to Facebook.”
