That’s a pretty shaky argument when you consider how little of these companies’ profits trickle back down from the top of the pyramid. I refuse to believe that lower per-unit cost can not easily be offset by simply stopping CEOs from rewarding themselves with ridiculously disproportionate wages and bonuses.

If Verizon (or any carrier) wants to take this seriously, it’s very simple: let customers add unlimited devices to an existing data bucket for a reasonable monthly fee. $5, for instance. I could even understand $10, perhaps.
How about ZERO ?
There is absolutely NO justification for charging ANYTHING to connect additional devices to the same, finite pool of data. There are no operational costs, no complicated, “magic” procedures being performed in order to conjure these services across multiple devices.
Everyone needs to stop trying to convince themselves that this is okay. Stop supporting plans that nickel-and-dime customers for “services” that require total inaction on the carrier’s part.

I know a lot of developers working in both camps and I’m certainly aware of the very legitimate reasons the studio system exists. Like you say (and as I acknowledge in the next sentence of the article) development on that scale for a small team is impossible. Just look at what happened to the team behind Renegade Ops.
I’m arguing that perhaps games as a whole just need to scale down. Smaller projects by their very nature have more authorial voice and better potential for unique experiences outside of diversion and escapist power fantasy. And judging by the tepid reception for some of the flashiest games at E3 this year, I’d say other people feel the same way — I really don’t understand how a generally understood malaise regarding big budget games is “hipster posing.”

Pretty sure that egomaniacal lunatics like Ari Emanuel are a small part of the many reasons people started pirating Hollywood movies in the first place. This industry needs to change or it needs to hurry up and die.
