Egyptian blogger posts nude pic for "freedom"

Gotta love modern “progress” and the struggle for democracy. Getting naked on the Internet for the whole world to see is apparently a sign that you are free!

A young Egyptian girl has seized the Internet’s attention after she posted a nude self-portrait on her blog last month “as an expression of personal freedom,” Al-Masry al-Youm newspaper reports.

Aliaa Magda El-Mahdy, a self-described feminist, said on her Facebook page that she was “echoing screams against a society of violence, racism, sexism, sexual harassment and hypocrisy.”

“I have the right to live freely in any place… I feel happy and self-satisfied when I feel that I’m really free,” she said, according to the Egyptian daily.

“The yellow rectangles on my eyes, mouth and sex organ resemble the censoring of our knowledge, expression and sexuality,” El-Mahdy explained of one of the photos.

Hooray for freedom.

So is it revolutionary art, or is it porn trying to be revolutionary art?

The girl did this because she was fed up of everyone telling her what to do. Do this, wear this, don't do this, etc.... This is a very big "fuck you and fuck off" to society. You see, this started when she posted pics on Facebook of herself wearing shorts and a tank top in her bedroom, then she got all sorts of comments from people telling her this is not right, why are you doing this, this is provocative, etc... and it infuriated her. So she defiantly took it to the next level in a very public way, creating history in the process.

This girl has balls, I am surprised by how u wrote that post angy. This girl took an extroardinary risk, it is with daring chalanges and provocations that the arab spring will blosome and u shoul be hayling her act. It is not about the quality of her pic for us to juge but by the act she dared do. Did u know thatin the 70 there was a mude march once in Hamra beirut. This collective act today remind us of how backwards our societies hqve become. Show a bit more anthousiasm and remove that porn question it is insulting and already judgemental from ur side. And ask yourself why u wouldn't dare do the same ?
