An eye witness told Al-Jazeera television on Sunday that Syrian security forces are firing randomly in Daraa’s town of al-Harak, adding that around 40 soldiers defected from the army and were shot at by security forces.

Since anti-regime protests erupted in Syria in mid-March, the crackdown on dissent has resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 civilians and over 360 members of the security forces, according to a Syrian Observatory toll.
