German top-flight side SpVgg Greuther Furth have stolen the march on Arsenal to sign Ghanaian talented defender Baba Abdul Rahman.

The 17-year-old signed a five-year contract with the newly-promoted Bundesliga club on Tuesday after spending three weeks on trials with the club.

Rahman moves from Ghanaian side Kumasi Asante Kotoko after spending one season on loan with the Porcupine Warriors.

Rahman is considered to be one of the rising stars of Ghanaian football and, according to Furth, was a target of other European clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Napoli.

"I am pleased to sign for SpVgg and I’m really looking forward to start with SpVgg and compete in the Bundesliga,'' Rahman said.

"I’ve been received here very well and it has felt right from the first day.

"This is a very friendly club and ideal for a young player like me.

"I would like to be here to develop and establish myself in European football," Rahman added.

The speedy right-back says he opted to move to the Bundesliga because the Bavarian club offered him "the best conditions in which to develop my career.''

Rahman is considered to be one of the rising stars of Ghanaian football and he is originally owned by third tier side Dreamz FC.

Greuther Furth will play in the top tier of the Bundesliga next season after winning the second division title.
