‘Fallout 3’ photo pilgrimage reveals the digital apocalypse’s real-world inspirations
While those of us who grew up in the Washington, D.C. area may have noticed some liberal artistic license in Fallout 3’s depiction of the region, certain real-world locations were recreated with a familiar accuracy. Comparisons of those locations with their digital counterparts can now be seen in Flickr user LockeVanish’s photostream, which contains an extensive set of photos spanning the D.C. and Nevada wastelands in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

This week doesn’t seem like a fair fight, but at least your buddies The Besties are still getting along (except the part when they sort of threaten to kill one another). This week: Hear how honestly terrified Justin is of mice, walk the exotic wasteland that is Huntington, WV and be there when a new king game is crowned!

Before I tell you the story of how I tricked and deceived my son, an innocent 7-year-old who trusts me with his life, his happiness and his dignity, let me first explain how much I hate Plants vs. Zombies. I cringe just typing the name. A clip of the music or a piece of the art is enough to make my gut shrink. I don’t blame the game, which is a perfectly great, smartphone-friendly tower defense title. I hate it because of my son.Oceans Away! | Unwinnable

90 Seconds on The Verge: Friday, July 6th, 2012
It’s the end of week two, but due to Wednesday’s US holiday, only episode numero nine — not a very pretty even number, which admittedly bugs us more than it should. None of that really matters, though. What does matter is a rumored Amazon smartphone, new Nike shoes, and the long-awaited return of the Furby. To be honest, we’re pretty bummed we had “British Airways is stalking you on Google” was cut in place of breaking Galaxy Nexus news.

But I was a volunteer intern, and I was in high school. And I learned how to use every machine in that place. My biggest advice to people would be key on the technical. If you learn how to use these machines—cameras and editing systems and stuff like that—then you will have the tools to do stuff creatively. There’s some people who turn up their nose to the technical side of production. It’s the dumbest thing that people do, because then you need to get permission and crews to shoot for you.Great interview with the Onion A.V.
