Description:

We're starting a local community revolution! Our goal is a "Meetup Everywhere about Most Everything", and we're on our way. We help people "use the internet to get off the internet" because Meetups change lives and can change the world.

We are profitable, growing, and committed to building an all-star, all-NYC company. We are a company that values doers over talkers and mentors over managers. We are a company where people who take risks and win are rewarded and grow.

Our team is ambitious and passionate; the environment is relaxed and fun. We get shit done that makes a difference.

Meetup is seeking a Desktop Support Specialist to support the day-to-day technology needs of our NYC-based office. This person will be working on our Systems Operations Team and should have aspirations towards growing into a Linux Systems Engineering role at a startup web company.

You would be responsible for:

  • Supporting the technology needs of our NYC-based staff
  • Deploying new laptops and workstations
  • Managing the health of our existing laptops and workstations
  • Providing internal technical support
  • Assisting our Systems Engineers as needed
  • Learning all you can!

You should have experience with:

  •  Windows XP/Vista and Mac OS X (10.5+), including installing from CD, updating, troubleshooting drivers, installing applications, and managing users in a non-Windows Active Directory environment
  • Microsoft Office and other office suites (e.g. iWork, OpenOffice.org)
  • Setting up email clients like Outlook/Thunderbird and using them
  • Networked printers, preferably HP and similar
  • Physical components of a computer (both desktop and laptop, PC and Apple) and experience upgrading and replacing hardware components
  • Troubleshooting odd and random problems with applications and computers face to face with users

In addition, you should be able to lift 50 lb boxes containing computer equipment.

Big plus if you have:

  • Some familiarity with the Linux operating system: installing, getting around, and understanding of basic command
  • Experience with VMware and/or other virtual machine applications/concepts
  • Familiarity with Wikis/Bugzilla/Google Apps
  • Experience with centralized anti-virus and electronic inventory systems

Our team is smart, ambitious, and passionate; the environment is relaxed and a lot of fun despite regular, tight deadlines. We are focused on quick, quality completion of projects and excited by what we do.

Every member of the Meetup Team is expected to: be an Innovator; be a Collaborator; be a Champion for their ideas; be an Expert; have High Standards; be dedicated to the power of self-organized groups and our mission of A Meetup Everywhere About Most Everything ("MEME"); and most importantly, Get Stuff Done That Makes a Difference!
