Default Is free wifi tethering possible on GS3 with root?

If you root your GS3 and run vanilla ICS or JB, will you be able to use your phone as a wifi hotspot? If you are on AT&T, is there anything you can do to prevent the carrier from knowing you are using the tethering feature without actually paying it? $20 for tethering is ridiculous in my opinion. I'd like to do whatever I want with my 2GB of monthly data.

OK, I came across Foxfi after I started this thread -

Can anybody confirm Foxifi still works for them, especially AT&T users? Have any of you have had any trouble from your carriers after you started using this?

I'm VZW but FoxFi works perfectly on mine. I'm not rooted.

It will probably take them a bit longer to detect with the new family data plans going into effect. That said, I used to use my jailbroken iphone to tether my ipad for a year. At&t never detected it. I think it's bs anyway, preventing you from tethering. If i pay for data, I'll use it as I see fit. If I go over my data allowance then fine, hit me up. US carriers should all be sued so they act more like European carriers.

Thank god the Australian service providers don't charge for tethering. I use my galaxy tab to provide Internet to my desktop laptop xbox etc. Plus I hook up to my phone if anythings left of my 3gb.

I dont know, my Tablet plan is with Telstra which are expensive but they are the only ones with decent coverage in the pokey town I live in and I pay $50 a month for 8GB. There are plans a fair bit cheaper but its only consistently useable in the cities.

My phone I pay $59 a month for $700 credit, free txts in ozz, free Virgin to Virgin calls and txts and 3gb of data. Most of the credit I use on international calls.

All the above 3g Telstra has 4g but its a different frequency to what you guys run, Apple got smacked on the knuckles with Ipad 3 claiming it was 4g when it wouldn't work on Telstras network

Ozzy dollar is slightly stronger than US dollar. 1 AUD= 1.031USD right now.

I don't know why you say that but your probably don't either. The network devices they use to find tethering are the same and the new plans don't change how the network or these devices work. One of these things is not like the other.

the UK carriers are gettin stricter. i use 3 network and they block all torrent sites and throttle you if they detect tethering or very heavy use between 3pm-midnight

I tried using the above app on my sprint SG3. I tried to tether my Asus TF300T but it would no connect even though I could see it in the WIFI networks.
