To put it simply, Flashpoints are the dungeons of The Old Republic. Treasures, challenging foes, and a grand test for teamwork await in each one. These are not undertakings for one person to do alone; you must band together with a group of like-minded loot-hunters/questers and conquer the trials within together.
At the level cap (currently 50), players can choose to venture into Heroic versions of these Flashpoints, which grant better loot and a suitable challenge level.
Some Flashpoints are unique to one faction.
