For College: iPad or Nexus 7?

I am a huge Apple fan, and have had every phone since the 3G in '09, and when the iPad 3 was announced, I was on-board right away. I bought the tablet (32GB Wifi+4G Verizon) on opening weekend, and four months in, I'm not so satisfied. The most common complaint I read here [and can affirm] is that the screen size is just too big. It also feels heavy, especially when compared to a 7-inch tablet like the Nexus 7. The keyboard is also too cramped when in portrait (it also feels weird when the keyboard is split) and the keys are too spaced when typing in landscape. I'm going into my first year of College very soon, and I don't know if I should keep the iPad for the sake of school, or switch to the Nexus 7 (which I've tried in store) and sacrifice the speed, display, and productivity apps. Like I just mentioned, I tried the Nexus 7 at a local Sam's Club, and typing is so much better, and the screen isn't too bad. If I get it, this would be the first Android device I've every owned, and I've never been a fan of Google's OS. After reading all of this, what would you recommend?
