A FINE FRENZY ANNOUNCES CO-HEADLINE FALL TOUR DATES WITH JOSHUA RADIN

August 16, 2012 – New York, NY – A Fine Frenzy, the musical identity of Alison Sudol, has announced dates for a five-week tour of North America in support of her brand new album, PINES. The tour kicks off at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts in Santa Barbara, CA on October 11, includes the third annual City Arts Festival in Seattle, WA on October 18, and wraps up at Los Angeles' historic Wiltern on November 16. All shows are co-headlining with singer-songwriter Joshua Radin.

The third full-length from A Fine Frenzy, PINES will be released on October 9. This imaginative fable about a pining tree who is given the unheard-of chance (for a conifer) to make a life of her own choosing was crafted by Sudol in response to our accelerating pace of life in the 21st century. Drawing inspiration from the redwood forests and dramatic landscapes of Northern California and Washington's Cascade Mountains, the thirteen new original songs survey a sonic landscape as vast and deep as the woods, their namesake.

A sensory experience of music, storytelling and emotion, the adventure of PINES is further realized in a companion book and short film. The animated film PINES integrates hand-cut sets, puppets, stop motion, physical effects, and layered glass to augment the depth and texture of the film. The book is a collaboration with illustrator Jen Lobo, whose aesthetic Sudol chose for her blend of "scientific precision and whimsical beauty."

Since A Fine Frenzy's 2007 debut One Cell In The Sea, which spawned the hit "Almost Lover," Sudol has proven herself a consummate, imaginative storyteller. Produced by Keefus Green (Everlast, Cassandra Wilson, Joe Henry, Benji Hughes), and recorded at the legendary Capitol Studios, PINES rekindles Sudol's childlike sense of wonder after her 2009 electro-pop outing Bomb In A Birdcage. Keep an ear out for the first track “Now Is The Start” which currently can be heard in advertising for American Eagle Outfitters and American Greeting’s Wink cards.

New Album: PINES

VIRGIN RECORDS TO RELEASE PINES

A NEW ALBUM BY A FINE FRENZY

PINES, Alison Sudol's third full-length as A Fine Frenzy (release date: October 9, 2012), is a fable about a pining tree who is given the unheard-of chance (for a conifer) to make a life of her own choosing. Drawing inspiration from the redwood forests and dramatic landscapes of Northern California and Washington's Cascade Mountains, the thirteen new original songs survey a sonic landscape as vast and deep as the woods, their namesake.

Sudol crafted PINES in response to our accelerating pace of life in the 21st century. "Sometimes I feel like the world has been strapped onto the back of a giant rocket and it's hurtling us into the unknown at a pace we're not entirely equipped to deal with. All kinds of things are falling off, good and bad. It's a crazy, exciting, terrifying time- so much is changing, and fast. Yet some of the most wonderful things in the world are slow- rivers and seasons and turning leaves and growing older with the ones you love. I wanted to create an environment where a person could retreat to, somewhere vivid and real where their minds and hearts could wander freely. I wanted it to be a place you could go to feel, like a quiet spot in a forest or the sea on a cloudy day."

The adventure of PINES is further realized in a companion book and short film. The animated film PINES, (produced by TakePart, the digital division and Social Action network of Participant Media, whose mission is to create entertainment that inspires and compels social change) integrates hand-cut sets, puppets, stop motion, physical effects, and layered glass to augment the depth and texture of the film.  The book is a collaboration with illustrator Jen Lobo, whose aesthetic Sudol chose for her blend of “scientific precision and whimsical beauty.”

The ecological consciousness evident throughout PINES has been an integral part of Alison Sudol's life since she was a little girl in Seattle, Washington. She serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and performed at the 2011 Environmental Media Awards, subsequently joining their Young Hollywood Board, which supports school gardens in urban areas through funding and celebrity mentoring.

As one of the first artists on Twitter, Sudol takes her responsibilities seriously, encouraging her 1.7 million followers to be more socially active within their own communities on and off line. A recent collaboration with Nokia at this year’s SXSW resulted in Sudol and her followers contributing to the planting of over 5,000 trees after an extreme drought in the area decimated their forests and urban tree population.

"I had been running to keep up with a world which I could not catch for so long, trying to find somewhere to belong, …somewhere along the way, I got lost. And then one day, I just couldn't run anymore. I didn't know where to go. It was only when I stopped that I found what I was looking for- or at least, I found how to find it. During that time, I was writing the story of PINES… I had to write it as a story- stories allow you to take a step back and actually look at what you're seeing, not just how you feel about it. They give you perspective. That perspective allowed me to see life in a different way, as an adventure; the record, the book and the film are my maps.”

Superstar Artists And Writers Support Second Phase Of Charity Auction To Raise Funds For Japan

SUPERSTAR ARTISTS AND WRITERS SUPPORT SECOND PHASE OF CHARITY AUCTION TO RAISE FUNDS FOR JAPAN

Personal items donated by global stars to aid the Japanese Red Cross’s disaster relief efforts, via charity auction at ebay.com/EMIfamily4Japan

London, 11 April 2011 -- Artists and songwriters including Katy Perry, The Beatles, David Bowie, The Beach Boys, Iron Maiden, Gorillaz, Sting, David Gilmour and Tinie Tempah have donated exclusive personal items and memorabilia to the second phase of the EMI family’s charity auction to raise funds to help the Red Cross support people affected by last month’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

The latest round of the charity auction, which is one of the biggest in eBay’s history, kicks off today and closes on April 21. There are still four days to go until the end of the first phase of the auction, featuring items from artists and writers including Coldplay, Beastie Boys, Jane Birkin, Depeche Mode, 30 Seconds To Mars, Simple Minds, Alice In Chains, and The Chemical Brothers.

Items added to the auction today include the 1987 Ferrari 412 as featured in Daft Punk’s film ‘Electroma’, a cupcake trampoline used on stage in Katy Perry’s current California Dreams world tour, access to private concert rehearsal by Sting, a one-off diamante head used onstage by Deadmau5, a limited edition ‘Yellow Submarine’ bicycle issued to mark the re-release of The Beatles’ famous movie, three framed and signed prints of David Gilmour taken in Gdansk, and more than 30 albums individually signed by David Bowie.

Also included in the auction is the MacBook used by David Guetta to create the demos for his hit album ‘One Love’, the hand written lyrics to ‘God Only Knows’ from the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, Tinie Tempah’s pink blazer from the ‘Frisky’ video, and one of the four original handmade "Zero" shirts worn by the Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan for the release and tour of ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’.

All funds raised from the charity auction will be used towards the Japanese Red Cross disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Funds will be used for the on-going provision of immediate relief to support the affected population during their recovery. EMI Group has committed to match all funds raised from the auction up to a maximum of one million euros.

The first phase of the charity auction ends on April 15th, with the second phase ending on April 21st. All the items can be viewed at ebay.com/EMIfamily4Japan.

Beastie Boys said: “Japan has always been a special and important place for us as a band. We've made so many friendships there in our personal and professional lives. We hope in some way that our donation can help the people of Japan rebuild after the devastating earthquakes and tsunami.”

Billy Corgan, the vocalist, lead guitarist and songwriter for The Smashing Pumpkins, commented: "The people of Japan are an incredibly strong and proud people, and their love of life and culture has had a profound and positive affect on the way I view my own life. There are a million things I wish I could do right now to help soothe the pain and sorrow that so many of our fans and their families are experiencing, and my heart hurts when I think of the losses they have suffered, and are still suffering. I wanted to contribute to this auction to show my gratitude to the Japanese people and offer something that was particularly meaningful to me. I'm also proud of all the other artists who have pitched in to help, as well as my old label EMI for stepping in to organize and also match donations."

A Fine Frenzy Kicks Off Fall Headline Tour

A FINE FRENZY KICKS OFF FALL HEADLINE TOUR

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED NEW ALBUM BOMB IN A BIRDCAGE IN STORES NOW

(Los Angeles, CA – September 11, 2009) Following this week’s release of Bomb in a Birdcage, its acclaimed second album, A FINE FRENZY—led by Alison Sudol—is announcing a month-long national tour, beginning on Tuesday, October 20th at the Parish in Austin, Texas. These dates (see full schedule below) take the band through all major markets from New York to Los Angeles; rising stars Landon Pigg and Among the Oak & Ash will be opening the shows.

A Fine Frenzy recently played a special preview concert in East Hampton, New York, which was filmed by the public television series Live from the Artists Den.  Highlights from this remarkable performance, which showcases Sudol’s on-stage charm and the group’s dynamic new sound, can now be seen exclusively on hulu.com (www.hulu.com/artistsden). A Fine Frenzy is also scheduled to appear on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson later this month, with further television appearances soon to be announced.

The early response to Bomb in a Birdcage (currently sitting at < Top Pop Album and reaching & on the Top Overall Album iTunes chart and > on the Amazon MP3 Best Sellers chart) has been extraordinary. Billboard wrote that the album’s songs “churn like giddy summer romances, nailing the delicate balance of charming and smart,” while Vogue described the album’s first single, “Blow Away,” as “irresistible” and “sunny without being saccharine.” VH1 and MTVU have already added “Blow Away" to their rotations, and the song will be the “Video of the Day” on AOL on September 17.

The new album is the follow-up to 2007’s One Cell in the Sea, which reached Number One on Billboard’s “Heatseeker” charts, and received rave reviews in publications from Entertainment Weekly to Paste to People. A Fine Frenzy was chosen as a VH1 “You Oughta Know” artist; appeared on The Tonight Show, The CBS Early Show and The Late Show with David Letterman; and toured extensively alongside the likes of Rufus Wainwright and Brandi Carlile.

Born in Seattle and raised in Los Angeles, 24-year-old singer and songwriter Sudol was active on Twitter (@AFineFrenzy) long before it became a cultural phenomenon—to the point that she now has over a million followers, making her one of the top ten musicians on the service, alongside super stars like Britney Spears and John Mayer. Now she is looking forward to connecting with all of these fans on the road.

“On the last tour,” Sudol says, “I discovered that I love rocking out and having a good time. So this time, I wanted to stretch and grow and push myself. I wasn’t interested in doing more of the same, that doesn’t inspire me. And now, I can’t wait to get on the road with this stuff! It’s going to be quite an undertaking, but I’m up for it.”

A FINE FRENZY CELEBRATES MILLION-FOLLOWER
TWITTER MILESTONE WITH FREE DOWNLOAD

SECOND VIRGIN RECORDS ALBUM, ‘BOMB IN A BIRDCAGE,’ TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER, 2009

(July 23, 2009, New York, NY) – Joining a select club of music notables, Virgin Records’ A FINE FRENZY marks a milestone in its close online relationship to its fans, as the band surpasses 1 million-plus Twitter followers. To celebrate the moment and to thank and acknowledge all of A FINE FRENZY’s fans, the band is tweeting a free MP3, an acoustic version of the lead-off single, “Blow Away” that was recorded during a recent visit to Cincinnati radio station Q102. The album version was released digitally on July 14 and has been added to dozens of Hot AC and AAA radio station playlists already, while the band's second album BOMB IN A BIRDCAGE is scheduled for digital and physical release on September 8, 2009.

To show gratitude for all the love and support, an acoustic version of “Blow Away” from a performance at WKRQ in Cincinnati can be redeemed here: http://bit.ly/XT1QF

AFF frontwoman, singer-songwriter Alison Sudol (@AFineFrenzy), tweeting long before Twitter became a social magnet and a cultural marker, had already been among the top 10 most-followed musicians on the service for months, rubbing shoulders with top-line music celebrities Mariah Carey and Britney Spears; the inveterate blogger and online wit John Mayer; hip-hoppers P. Diddy, 50 Cent, and Soulja Boy; actor/singer Ashley Tisdale; Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and Coldplay.

The breezy, propulsive album version of “Blow Away” shares the tuneful charm and whimsical language of AFF’s debut, while BOMB IN A BIRDCAGE as a whole adds new colors and textures reflecting what Sudol describes as a previously-unnoticed “wild side…I’m a quiet person with a loud streak, and this record is a testament to that.”

Seattle-born and Los Angeles-raised Sudol released the first A FINE FRENZY album, One Cell In the Sea, in 2007, reaching Number One on Billboard’s “Heatseeker” charts. The band was chosen as a VH-1 “You Oughta Know” artist, and received rave notices in Entertainment Weekly, Paste and People, among others. Touring alongside the likes of Rufus Wainwright and Brandi Carlile, Sudol also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The CBS Early Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. She made her acting debut on the crime drama series CSI: NY and has also shot fashion spreads.

A FINE FRENZY’S DARING SOPHOMORE ALBUM,
BOMB IN A BIRDCAGE, TURNS UP THE VOLUME

"BLOW AWAY" AVAILABLE NOW ON ITUNES

On September 8, 2009, A FINE FRENZY—led by Alison Sudol—will release Bomb in a Birdcage on Virgin Records, the follow-up to 2007’s critically acclaimed One Cell in the Sea. While the debut established Sudol as one of the most talented young singers and songwriters around, the new album reveals another side of A Fine Frenzy.

"I think some people may be surprised,” says 24-year-old Sudol. “They think that I’m all fragile and ethereal, but I have a wild side, too. I’m a quiet person with a loud streak, and this record is a testament to that.”

One Cell reached Number One on Billboard’s “Heatseeker” charts, and A Fine Frenzy was chosen as a VH1 “You Oughta Know” artist. The album received rave reviews in publications from Entertainment Weekly to Paste to People. Songs from the album were licensed to numerous television shows, and Sudol appeared on The Tonight Show, The CBS Early Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. The young redheaded singer made her acting debut on CSI:NY and turned up in fashion spreads, but she received even more attention for her literary interests, including a band name taken from Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream.

“Blow Away,” the breezy, propulsive first single from Bomb in a Birdcage now available on iTunes, illustrates that the new album retains the tuneful charm and whimsical language of the debut, while adding new colors and textures. Lengthy tours alongside the likes of Rufus Wainwright and Brandi Carlile contributed to Sudol’s attraction to different sounds.

“On tour,” she says, “I discovered that I love rocking out and having a good time. I started listening to as much music as I could. I didn’t want to limit myself. I wanted to stretch and grow and push myself. I also wanted to have fun.”

The pivotal point for Bomb in a Birdcage was “Stood Up,” a sweeping rock ballad. “It was the most unruly I’d ever been,” says Sudol. “I was scared by it at first and wanted to put it aside. But the songs I tend to love the most in the end are often the ones that, initially, I wanted to do away with.”

Born in Seattle and raised in Los Angeles, Sudol retains a close relationship to the outdoors, and to the spirit of fantasy she found in writers like Lewis Carroll and C.S. Lewis. But she’s far from being some kind of romantic Luddite. In fact, she was active on Twitter (@AFineFrenzy) long before it became a cultural phenomenon—to the point that she now has over half a million followers, making her one of the top ten musicians on the service, alongside folks like Britney Spears and John Mayer.

The cliché is that an artist puts her whole life into her debut, and then has to crank out a followup while touring and feeling commercial pressure for the first time. But on Bomb in a Birdcage, Alison Sudol has challenged herself, and reached heights that even she couldn’t imagine.

“I felt like being daring,” she says. “I wasn’t interested in doing more of the same, that doesn’t inspire me. And now, I can’t wait to get on the road with this stuff! It’s going to be quite an undertaking,
but I’m up for it.”

The Rhapsody Interview by A Fine Frenzy on Rhapsody

From InStyle Magazine Party Hopper James Patrick Herman

I met a V.I.P.-to-be downstairs on the main floor: Alison Sudol, a.k.a. A Fine Frenzy , who was a hit at the recent South by Southwest festival when she opened for Iggy Pop and the Stooges. For you Shakespeare scholars out there: Yes, the name of Alison's band was inspired by A Midsummer Night's Dream, so it's no surprise that her sound is more Tori than Iggy. Her debut album, One Cell in the Sea, could make her a big star when it comes out on July 17th, but at the moment, Alison's content to keep it real. "I still live with my mom," she told me. In fact, she was signed to the Capitol Music Group after charming Jason Flom, the record company's CEO, with a private showcase in her L.A. living room. "My mom made cookies," the singer/songwriter recalls. Alison's songs are pretty great on their own, but cookies make everything better. Click here for pic of James w/ Alison
