Katy Perry's wild night out! Nibbling on BFF Rihanna's shoulder, kissing two teen idols and heading home with John Mayer (after an angry row)

Three years ago MTV's Video Music Awards was the scene of Katy Perry's very first meeting with her now ex-husband Russell Brand.
And with her divorce from the British comedian still raw she could be forgiven for feeling a little apprehensive about attending.
Whatever the reason, it certainly turned into a wild night out for the pop starlet. Seated alongside fellow chart-topped and long term BFF Rihanna in the front row she started nuzzling into her shoulder.

Rihanna, who organised Katy's ill-fated hen do, took her friend's attentions in her stride, as she continued to watch the proceedings.
Katy sat and quietly kissed her friends shoulder, before leaning in to whisper in her ear.
Dressed in a patterned bejeweled shift dress which displayed her curves, the 27-year-old looked less than interested in what was going on onstage.

But she perked up when it was her turn to present an award, which she did in spectacular form.
Dressed in the low cut black Elie Saab
dress with sequin detailing in which she had arrived she presented the
British teen band One Direction with their Moonman for hit single What
Makes You Beautiful.
As the boy band arrived onstage Katy eagerly greeted one 18-year-old singer with a peck - but not on his cheek. Niall Horna puckered up for the kiss on the lips from Katy and he certainly looked as if he enjoyed it.

His bandmate Harry Styles was not to be outdone, racing to Katy to get a smacker himself.
Niall promptly tweeted a picture of
the pair kissing, writing to Katy: '@NiallOfficial: @katyperry looks
like its official ... me and you', to which the amused singer wrote
back: 'I'll be your Mrs. Robinson...'
Katy, clearly a big fan of the teen
sensations, earlier took to the micro-blogging website, frantically
posting her fears One Direction had cancelled its performance at the
event.
She tweeted: 'If One Direction doesn't
perform on the VMAs I am gonna jump off this ledge.' But realising she
was mistaken, promptly backtracked before they took the stage: 'Oh, it
was just a rumor.'

After the awards things didn't clam down for Katy, who spent the rest of the evening in the arms of her on-again, off-again lover John Mayer.
The couple were seen sneaking out of
Madeo Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills. John looked dapper for the
occasion, wearing a more dressy outfit consisting of a black jacket,
white T-shirt and grey trousers to complement his girlfriend's
floor-length gown.
Nestled in the back seat of the car,
the couple mostly looked ahead and made no contact as they made their
way off to another party.

However after their romantic meal
things apparently turned sour between the pair when they arrived at The
House of Hype Power Players dinner presented by Esquire Magazine at the
Beverly Hills Hotel.
The couple reportedly entered the
hotel together, but strategically had friends walk between them to avoid
being photographed together. They arrived at the bash at 11pm, opting
not to join fellow diners.
Instead, they decided to sit in an adjoining ballroom to wait for the after party to begin.

Sitting at a private table with a
10-strong entourage, Katy was said to have ordered a bottle of Jameson
whiskey and ginger ale.
According to reports, the air between the couple grew incredibly tense throughout the evening and John was seen trying to calm his girlfriend down.
A fight between the couple apparently broke out forcing John to allegedly take his new girlfriend outside into a private area.

I remember the days when most photos of performers was of them performing. I guess being 'famous' is a full-time career in itself, these days.
