Naomi Campbell made a surprise appearance at New York Fashion Week by walking the catwalk in Zac Posen's show.

The supermodel took to the runway at the Lincoln Centre wearing a red and cream flower print dress from the American designer's spring/summer 13 collection.

Model Coco Rocha, who also took part in the show, had Tweeted earlier in the day that she 'secrets to spill later' in reference to Campbell's appearance.

She later wrote 'I told you I had a big surprise tonight' after Campbell made her appearance.

The audience, which included Kelly Osbourne and Alexa Chung on the front row, gasped in amazement as Campbell stepped out onto the catwalk first after a fashionably late start to the show.

She walked down the runway to the jazz song 'Sunday Kind of Love' in the pretty flowered dress followed by models Erin O’Connor, Karolina Kurkova and Alek Wek.

Campbell's appearance coincided with her joining Twitter. She took to the social networking site shortly before her entrance writing 'About to walk the @ZacPosen show at #NYFW...you ready for me?'

She later tweeted a pictured of herself with Joan Rivers at the event.

But while Campbell may have been the most famous face on the catwalk, Rocha stole the show when she stepped out in a tiered, organza gown.

The ruffled bodice with full-bodied skirt dominated the runway in the show's finale. The beautiful gown will no doubt be coveted by A-listers who want to stand out on the red carpet while it would also work as a dramatic wedding dress.

The cream creation was the last of  Posen's stunning evening gowns to be displayed. Others included a green mermaid-like number with a corseted silk bodice and full tulle skirt and an ivory strapless gown with flower print detail in the skirt that would also suit a blushing bride.

These gowns are ethereal and gorgeous. So much prettier than some of the others offered by other designers this season.

When I look at these types of shows, the only things I'm interested in are: 1) The clothes. The design, the effort taken to create the garment. Both garments and shoes. 2) The makeup. 3) The hair. The models are non entities. And I cannot enlarge the ego of someone who walks down a strip for a living. They are not worth it. Which is why I don't understand the hype around models.
