'It's hugely emotional': Emma Stone joins her breast cancer-survivor mother Krista in touching portrait to raise awareness of the disease

Four years ago, she watched her 48-year-old mother suffer through 25 'terrifying' weeks of chemotherapy.

And in a recently-released image, Emma Stone and her triple-negative breast cancer survivor mother Krista lovingly embrace in Revlon's first public service campaign, Your Lips Can Save Lives.

'It was so wonderful and special,' Stone told USA Today of the shoot with fashion photographer Steven Klein.

'She still has surgeries to go, and that time period is always kind of present still. So doing that [photo shoot] was just — she's here. We're here together as mother and daughter.

The 23-year-old starlet continued, 'It was hugely emotional, and I think everyone on set knew that and was hugely supportive of that.'

In the touching black-and-white portrait, which will run in the October and November issues of national women’s magazines, Emma's mother is seen embracing her famous daughter from behind.

Revlon Global Brand Ambassador Halle Berry will also appear in the campaign spots, directed by Darren Aronofsky, and she even co-hosted the 15th annual EIF Revlon Run in New York that Stone and her mother walked in last May.

'We came together to spread a message,' Berry said in the Revlon press release.

'We sort of did a play on how we can use our lips, while wearing lipstick, to laugh, to flirt and to spread the word about cancer and encourage other women to do the same. I hope that our message will be well received, because early detection is really one of the best ways to fight cancer.'

Early detection saved Krista's life as Emma pointed out, 'because a year before at her [mother's] mammogram she didn't have the tumor.'

After the 'really difficult, terrifying time' Krista was treated, the mother-daughter duo decided to get matching blackbird tattoos on their wrists, designed by none other than Paul McCartney.

'We got blackbird feet,' the Easy A star said. 'It's from that (Beatles) song Blackbird: "Take these broken wings and learn to fly." It seemed appropriate for the occasion.'

The Zombieland star will begin shooting Deep Tiki with filmmaker Cameron Crowe in the spring for Sony Pictures.

'Other than SNL, working with him has been my dream for as long as I can remember,' the funnywoman said. 'So it's pretty crazy to hear that out loud.'

The romantic comedy, said to resemble Joe Versus the Volcano, focuses on a military weapons consultant deployed to a dormant base in Hawaii to supervise the launch of a spy satellite who realizes the relationships he left behind.

But with Stone in the lead, the character will be rewritten as female.

Stone will also appear in next January's star-studded ensemble comedy Movie 43, and the animated comedy The Croods coming out next April.

The Superbad star and her boyfriend Andrew Garfield - who met on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man last year - were last seen dining at In-N-Out Burger late last month.

Had to have been very emotional. I lost my Mother last year to breast cancer. It's a tragic disease that affects so many women.

I think people are missing the point about the way this photo has been portrayed. Regardless as to whether you like Emma or not, the fact remains that the connotations are not conducive to promoting breast cancer awareness. I don't know what the photographer was on (notice he's male) but this pose, if it was seen, without any captions, would be interpreted differently and if you can't see that, then you are naive. The underlying message is lost and would have been better served by having mother and daughter embracing with affection, depicting courage and support or the daughter hugging her mother's back, rather than this where the end result is seedy. Art is there to be critiqued for those precious souls amongst you.

that picture is weird, it's like the mom wants to snog her face off. Strange choice of position. Emma is ok, very overrated though

Her mum reminds me of Julie Andrews! Such a beautiful photo. Always so good to hear of a cancer survivor, so many aren't so lucky.
