Distressing video footage shows the moment a 77-year-old grandmother is yanked out of her car for failing to hand over her driver's license after telling the police officer she was speeding because she needed to go to the bathroom.

Lynn Bedford, of Cleburne, Texas was was stopped by Sgt. Gene Geheb on August 19th for driving at 66 mph in a 50 mph zone, but after Mrs. Bedford refused five-times to hand over her insurance and license, the officer pulled her from her SUV and cuffed her.

Mrs. Bedford's attorney, Clay Graham of Fort Worth said that the Sgt. Geheb overreacted and used unnecessary force to 'overwhelm' her making a 'routine stop' a 'ridiculous stop.'

According to video captured from the squad car and from the officers uniform the confrontation begins amiably as the police officer pulls over Mrs. Bedford, approaches her vehicle and explains why he has pulled her over for speeding.

'Okay, alright, let's hurry up, I've got to go to the bathroom,' Mrs. Bedford is heard to say to Sgt. Geheb.

The Keene Police Department officer then asks to see her identification and the 77-year-old grandmother takes no notice, saying, 'I have a bladder infection.'

Sgt. Geheb then repeats himself, to which Mrs Bedford replies, 'You listen to me.'

'No, I want to see your driver's license and insurance please, then I'll listen to you,' says Sgt. Geheb.

'I'll give it to you in a minute,' answers back Mrs Bedford as she refuses twice more to hand over her papers.

'No, you give it to me now, or I'm going to take you to jail,' says a stern Sgt. Geheb.

'Well, go ahead,' challenges Mrs Bedford.

The police officer is then seen to open the door to the white SUV, grab the elderly lady's arm and pull her out of the car, causing her to fall to the ground.

He then helps her up and handcuffs her, leading her to the back of his squad car to be taken to the Keene Police jail.

Bedford's attorney, Clay Graham, of Fort Worth, told NBCDFW that the officer overreacted.

'The officer is not very interested in listening to what she has to say,' said Graham.

'She gets a little frustrated. And then he just overwhelms her.

'That's what I see. And then it goes from routine stop to ridiculous stop.'

Mr. Graham alleged that his client was injured during the arrest and was returning home from playing the piano at church when she was caught short driving her car.

The attorney said that Mrs. Bedford isn't interested in filing a lawsuit at the moment, but won't rule it out in the future.

In a statement, Keene Police Chief Rocky Alberti stood by the officer's actions.

'This incident has been reviewed thoroughly by the Keene Police Department and the City of Keene Administration,' said Chief Alberti in a written statement.

'All parties have concluded that Sgt. Geheb did not violate any state laws or department policies, and in fact was following department policy in regards to violators not providing identification.'

She was absolutely in the wrong - trying to play the old lady card to get out of a ticket. She got what she deserved.

Can you say the OLD BAT got what she deserved !

OMG. My mom is younger and has broken both hips. Pulling her out of the car like that would likely have put her in the hospital for over a week followed by months of rehab! Why do we care that much that she gives her id right then. He could have had a little more respect and protected her dignity and still have given her a speeding ticket! She could have been about to pee in her pants!

She was pulled over for speeding - putting people in danger. AND she refused to hand over her license. I am SO sick of people bashing the police for doing their jobs.

30 second into it he threatens her with jail ...30 seconds!!! a hot tempered cop..imagine him in a violent situation...he would probably go nuts and kill somone! We have rights in America and the cop violated them. There needs to be a law against going over the top at simple traffic stops....crazy!

Just follow directions.

I agree with most of the posters. Never argue with LE on the side of the road. Do what they ask, argue about it in court; otherwise, go to jail. It's just that simple. She got what she deserved.

It's not "distressing." She should have followed directions.

100% all the time you do what the officer says when he says it. He gave her many opportunties to do a simple thing and she blatenly said no. It seems that both were a little high strung for the situation, but in the end she should have complied. Being and old woman doesn't give you a pass.
