Simon Cowell's lavish spending habits were laid bare in Tom Bower's book of the music mogul, and it seems he's not changing his cash-happy ways.

He's seemingly splashed out on a new silver Ferrari 458 Italia - just months after buying a similar black model for around £175,000.

The sleek silver vehicle was spotted parked outside his Los Angles mansion.

The Ferrari 458 Italia is such an exclusive car that you have to join a waiting list of up to three years to obtain one.

Other celebrities that drive the pricey car include Kim Kardashian, Gordon Ramsay and Fernando Alonsi.

Not one to be subtle in the splash out stages, Cowell now reportedly has two - and his new purchase joins his increasing fleet of top of the range motors, which includes at least three Rolls-Royces, two Bentleys and a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.

The vehicle has a 4.5 litre V8 engine and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 202mph.

In Bower's book, Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life of Simon Cowell, it's alleged that Cowell once bought a vintage MG car but sold it the next day because it was 'too draughty'.

Other outlandish splurges in the past include flying his personal chef from London to Los Angeles to inspect outdoor pizza ovens installed in his home and ordering gardeners to replace his 'too smooth' grass.

Currently promoting the U.S. version of The X Factor, which aired on Wednesday night in America, he admits he has been revved up about the introduction of new judge Britney Spears.

And he's called her put downs to potential chart stars so severe that he's no longer the nasty one on the panel.

Cowell added: 'With Britney, everybody expects there’s going to be some kind of car crash. But it’s not. She’s very switched-on, very focused.

'She totally understands the music business, and understands the difference between a good singer and a potential star.'

He said: 'Everybody thinks I’m the mean one! She’s the new Queen of Mean. She’s totally and utterly fearless and couldn’t care less who she said ‘no’ to. She wouldn’t be influenced by me or LA  either. She did her own thing.'

He and Spears were joined at the launch at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood with fellow judges LA Reid and Demi Lovato

Bring back the 'Gold Standard' I say, then only people with real talent producing real results would make any money. Even Bill Gates would be curtailed to Millions rather than Billions!

Hope they fixed the instantanious combustion problem with the 458. Auto writers prefer the Audi R8. That 458 as a daily driver does not hack it. Or perhaps a Bugatti Veyron ,3000 combustion HP. Or a Lambo Murcielago. - jamesusa, garrison usa, 13/9/2012 19:45_____________ Aaarhh YAWN!!!!!

Not only is it his money but.......the luxury goods market is currently an important part of the economy. Tax revenue is collected when people spend money.

Someone said that Cowell did it all from nothing. Well sorry to burst your balloon but his mother was a socialite and ballet dancer and his father a property developer, estate agent and music executive. Simon went to Radlett Prep School and then on to the Independent Dover College where he only managed two 'O' levels so there was no chance of university. He did various jobs but wasn't liked by the people he worked with but eventually his father managed to get him a job in the industry in the mail room. Source Wikipedia. Simon has had a private education and plenty of help to push him up the ladder. But even after all that he still doesn't know good music from bubble gum and is only interested in the young kids that he can manipulate and make money from.
