Ballet triumphs over jazz as Cat Deeley crowns So You Think You Can Dance winners in emotional finale

Ballet triumphed over jazz tonight in the final of So You Think You Can Dance.

The season 9 finale saw Chehon Wepsi-Tscopp, 23, and Eliana Girard, 21, crowned 'America's favourite dancers'.

Their were tears and jubilation as Cat Deeley announced the news, with the runner ups bravely applauding.

During the season both have been saved by the judges at times, with Chehon needing their votes on two separate occasions.

But in the end they won over voters, beating jazz dancer Tiffany Maher, 19, and animator Cyrus Spencer, 22, into second place.

And he told Chehon he was his 'favourite male dancer of the show'.

Despite coming second in the viewers vote both Tiffany and Cyrus have proved favourites of the judges, never finding themselves in the bottom two.

Tonight's show saw two hours of 'best of' dance performances from the series stars, followed by the announcement of the winners.

The show opened with a group dance, featuring the season's top ten in a wild jungle number.

Carly Rae Jepson also performed her single The Kiss from her new album Kiss.

Filling up even more time, the judges chose their favourite dances of the season, which were screened once more.

Wish this programme was shown in UK on Freeview or Freesat, used to love watching it when I lived in India, but Sky is far too expensive here.
