Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, Fresh & Onlys, White Fence on Velvet Underground & Nico Tribute LP

For the 45th anniversary of The Velvet Underground & Nico (in addition to the upcoming six-disc reissue), some of the Bay Area's finest are set to cover the seminal classic. The Velvet Underground & Nico by Castle Face and Friends is a vinyl-only tribute LP out November 6 via Castle Face (the label of Thee Oh Sees frontman John Dwyer) and Universal. It features covers from Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, the Fresh & Onlys, White Fence, and more.

Amanda Palmer Starts Paying Musicians

Following a week of controversy, Amanda Palmer announced on her blog this afternoon that she has begun paying the string and horn players who she previously asked to volunteer to perform on her current tour.

Everybody's favorite hip little sister, Solange Knowles, will put out a new single through Terrible Records, co-run by Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor. It's out on October 2 digitally, and November 6 on vinyl.

Wilco have released a new animated clip for The Whole Love's "Sunloathe", a creation of director Peter Glantz and illustrator Nathaniel Murphy (who is also Glenn Kotche's touring drum tech and contributed illustrations to 2007's Sky Blue Sky). The clip opens with animated cat creatures taking over a house in the woods with pitchforks, before depicting other adorable monsters and medieval imagery and growing increasingly psychedelic.

Crystal Castles write in a very brief Facebook post that their new album will be out in November. Recall their description of the new release-- the much-anticipated follow-up to 2010's self-titled album-- from early this year: "Every song we write is bleak."

Today brought the special collaboration between the xx and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the BBC Philharmonic Presents... series. They played new arrangements of tracks from the xx's two full-lengths, The xx and the new Coexist. The concert took place in the seaside resort of Bridlington in East Yorkshire, England.

In 2009, Jason Molina (Magnolia Electric Co./Songs:Ohia) took a break from music, and has spent the past three years in and out of rehab facilities. In May, Molina posted a note on the Magnolia Electric Co. website, saying that he is doing well and working on new music.

On November 20, Fat Cat will put out an album of remixes of tracks from the Twilight Sad's solid 2012 record No One Can Ever Know. The release includes reworks from Tom Furse of the Horrors, Com Truise, Optimo and many more. Listen to Liars' take on the song "Nil", above.
The Twilight Sad will also hit the road for a tour soon-- dates after the tracklist.
