hinahgift016 - H-Burns "hinah session"

hinahgift016 - H-Burns

"hinah session"

H. Burns is the solo project of Renaud Brustlein, who also plays in the band Dont Look Back. Renaud had really impressed us when he opened for Okkervil River in 2005 and so we offered him to record the last hinah session in our former headquarters in Paris. H-Burns played two songs from his first album ("Songs From The Electric Sky", out on 15 May on Noise Digger/Differ-ant) as well as many covers, two of which are now included in our Tribute to the Anthology of American Folk Music by Harry Smith.

hinah calendar 2006hinah calendar 2006

hinah has always liked to combine music and graphic universes (photography, drawing, painting, collages...). In 2006, we introduce a new concept in our website: a hinah calendar. It features twelve photographs by Laurent Orseau, one for each month, and songs written by artists in the hinah sphere and inspired by the related pictures.
Music by Dave DeCastro, Alex Gwinnett, LunDi, Melmac, The Potomac Accord

hinah026 - oRSo "Rovereto"hinah026 - oRSo

"Rovereto"

After five years of dutiful service, the hinah series is coming to an end with a recording by oRSo. We first discovered this project from Phil Spirito (ex-Rex, ex-Loftus and a member of Califone) in a record shop, wondering what was that homophonic band (our surname is Orseau) with a beautiful sleeve showing a bear ('orso' in Italian), a beehive and, of course, bees annoying the massive plantigrade. We became even more intrigued and interested as we explored their raw folk music, with an upfront banjo playing unusually slowly and creating a constant unease. After three albums, and especially since their latest cd, the brassy "My Dreams Are Back And They Are Better Than Ever", oRSo has evolved towards a more "open" sound that introduces some fresh air in what remains a mostly arid environment.

hinahsingle004 - Andrew Sweeny / Everything Is Finehinahsingle004 - Andrew Sweeny / Everything Is Fine

Everything is Fine is the project of Marc Manning from Portland, Oregon (yes indeed, home of many musicians we love around here). His music is rooted in folk music, but also probably in years of listening to noisy guitar bands like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine. Andrew Sweeny is a Canadian who's lived in Paris for a while. Last year, he met an acquaintance of ours, Burzinski, at a gig of Barzin, and since then they've worked together on Andrew's folk songs (they've just finished an album named "Monotone"). For this split single, each songwriter added his own touch (vocals and mix) to a song offered by his fellow musician.
