LET’S CELEBRATE!

On November 9th, a new tribute to Laura will debut---a celebration of her life and music.  It's called "Stoned Soul Picnic", lovingly  created by family and friends.  The venue is the wonderful Hepburn theatre in Old Saybrook, CT  where the acoustics are perfection.  Now, isn't this a soulful, satisfying way to ward off Autumn's chill?  Yes.  More information below.

There are new comments and photos posted.  A reminder that the R & R Hall of Fame exhibit “American Women Who Rock” which features Laura amongst others, continues until April.  And for those who may wish to learn more about Laura’s life, Michele Kort’s book, “Soul Picnic” is available.

Stoned Soul Picnic: A Celebration of the Life and Music of Laura Nyro

November 9, 2012

The Katharine Hepburn Theater

Old Saybrook, CT

We’re pleased to announce that on November, 9th, 2012, Jan Nigro will host “Stoned Soul Picnic,” a tribute to the beauty, art, and soul of his sister’s life and music at The Katharine Hepburn Theater in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.  “Stoned Soul Picnic” will include never-before-heard stories and rare photographs, as well as a generous serving of Laura’s music incorporating the lush vocal harmonies that became a trademark of her recordings.

Joining Jan on vocals will be Diane Garisto, an original member of Laura’s Harmony Group who has also sung with such industry greats as Steely Dan and Paul Simon.  Margaret Dorn (Bette Midler, Manhattan Transfer, Bozz Scaggs) and La Tanya Hall (Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Wynton Marsalis) will also be contributing to the vocals.  Judy Palma  (James Taylor, Darlene Love) will be on keyboards and Andy Huenerberg (Hubert Sumlin, Dave Fields) will be on bass.

Says Jan of this celebration, “My sister Laura was a brilliant and innovative artist. Her timeless music glows as brightly as ever and we are thrilled to be able to present this evening.”

Tickets are on sale now.  Please visit The Katharine Hepburn Theater’s website at www.katharinehepburntheater.org and click on “Box Office.”
