Community Round-Up: 04/08/12

A fan favourite returns.

It’s been a good few days at the Olympics, hasn’t it? Lots of gold medals and stuff for Great Britain (and Northern Ireland), but no platinums that I’ve noticed so far. Hope we can nab one of those before the games are finished.

But from one kind of games to another, as we go through this week’s Round-Up.

A few meets get us up and running this week, starting off with the regular Uncharted 3 meet tonight at 7PM.

Tomorrow night, we have Dirt Showdown as usual at 6PM, with Ridge Racer Unbounded in a special attempt for hunting trophies at 9PM. I’m sure we’ll see Ridge Racer pop up a few times more in the coming weeks.

Monday night we have the regular Max Payne 3 at 9PM, with Dirt Showdown again on Tuesday night at 8PM.

Rounding us out on Thursday we have Battlefield 3′s DLC meet at 7PM, featuring the Close Quarters maps. Speaking of Battlefield, there’s bound to be the regular meet on Friday night, with some news of future plans on TSA in this forum thread.

So as always, keep an eye as the week progresses, and if you fancy creating your own meets you can do so, providing you have 250 TSA points or more.

Stop. The. Press.

Abridged Too Far is back!

I’m tempted to leave this section there, but I guess I should probably carry on.

Things are on the quieter side at the moment, as we lead in to Gamescom, so Jim resorted to reviewing an iOS game. The Dark Knight Rises must have been pretty decent to warrant a 7/10. We also have a look at the latest Zombie game to make a splash, in the form of Day Z, a mod for Arma 2 on PC, which Gamoc had a play with for our Cheap PC Gaming feature.

Al interviewed the developer of Thomas Was Alone, Mike Bithell. They talked about the world of consoles, software piracy and a few other things. If you remember, Al was enthusing about this title a while ago, so certainly a game you should have a look at.

So swiftly onwards to our opinion pieces, then, where Kris looked at the controversial future of gaming, which will no doubt heavily rely on online passes, DLC and mobile titles. Al similarly looked to the future of FIFA in particular, which could lie with a Free-to-Play model. Kris also talked about betas, arguing that they shouldn’t really be used for promotional purposes, as they so often are.

Rounding us out are our usual community features, starting with last week’s Community Chronicle, featuring Origami Killer’s gaming rig. WeView’s verdict is in for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, whilst the next title on the block is FIFA Street. Finally, we have What We Played and the TSA Podcast with their weekly episodes.

Bit of a zombie theme this in the forums this week as:

There’s plenty more going on, so take a look!

After thoroughly kicking Sonic up the bum last week, with an 11-3 scoreline, Batman is on the verge of going into the hall of fame here. So I figure maybe he should go up against someone that’s pretty handy when being attacked by things that jump out at him from dark corners… Isaac Clarke, the engineer from Dead Space.

Batman

Pros

  • Kicks butt in a brawl.
  • The world’s greatest detective.
  • Shark-repellant Spray and other gadgets.

Cons

  • Just a normal man.
  • Never gets any time off.
  • Doing that growly voice all the time must really hurt.

Isaac Clarke

Pros

  • That Plasma Cutter is pretty darned handy.
  • Sensible head on his shoulders, this one, being rather distrustful of those Unitology chaps.
  • Named after two legends of science fiction.

Cons

  • That suit was rather heavy, and he turned slower than your average whale.
  • Big glowing bits mean he probably can’t hide too well in the dark.
  • Always being attacked by massive giant Necromorph things!

So who do you think would win?

Gazza should be back next week, so goodbye for now!

Hopefully they should fill a lobby and get the Ridge Racer trophies that they need, after all of the controversy that it caused :P
There’s also an F1 mini-tournament in the making if anyone’s interested, it’s advertised in the Meets forum. Not had a lot of interest so far, but then again the timing is pretty lousy with the Olympics going on at the moment….my bad! {:’0

Yup, that’s why I expected it to pop up a few more time, so everyone can get the trophies. :)

F1 mini-tournament will also be a little hampered by people flogging the game while it was still worth a bit of cash!

Yeah, good point that I’d never even considered to be honest, as I still have F1 2010 in my collection.

You actually get more cash for it on the release week of the new F1 game, got a tenner for 2010 last year during the release week, opposed to the fiver I would of usually got a month before hand.

I still own F1 2010 and F1 2011 through choice, and am even considering buying F1CE again…..dunno why I ever sold it a few years back tbh!
Certain games, I just want to keep….a bit like the GTA’s for PS2 and all of the Gran Turismo’s from GT1 onwards. ;)

Clarke for me, killed off too many necromorphs for batman to give him trouble.

Even though I regret saying it, batman loses. Clarke would rip him a new one.

Why does Origami Killer get away with not turning up at the daily meetings? I missed one once and spent 9 hours getting shouted at by Adam. Speaking of Adam, whoever mentioned Val Kilmer will die as he refuses to shut up about him. And has locked himself in his office with every Val Kilmer film. Tef nearly killed himself when he thought that he had lost his entire collection of toeshoes. And i got told off for punching people in the face and saying that i’m batman. Kris does it all of the time and he never gets told off!

Anyway, the Dark Knight would win as he knows that assualting Clarke is suicide so he would find somewhere to stay out of his sight then take him down when he gets the chance. Also Batman always win. ALWAYS!(except the time that Bane broke his back but always)

You do realise that the penalty for not turning up is being tortured for a few hours?

Good to catch up! Been in the dark ages for a couple’o'months. I love TSA.

Oh, and Mr Clarke. His force gun would reign unholy magnificence on Batmans chisleled jaw.
