John Terry has stunned England by retiring from international football with immediate effect. The Chelsea defender's FA hearing for allegedly racially abusing QPR's Anton Ferdinand starts on Monday, but Terry has pre-empted the verdict by calling time on his 78-cap England career.

Jermain Defoe earned Andre Villas-Boas his first home win as Tottenham manager as Queens Park Rangers were undone in two second-half minutes. The visitors took the leas in the first half through Bobby Zamora but Spurs were level when Alejandro Faurlin put through his own net.
